Why Tatiana?
« on: May 29, 2005, 08:14:58 PM »
I wanted to start this new thread, for I'm not a great "Tatiana fan". I always liked much more the dreamer, moody Olga, the special Anastasia, the sweet beatiful Mashka than the plain (for me) practical Tatiana. And now I would want to know WHY some people considers she is their favorite GD. I know that Tatiana had many vertues: she was very kind to her mother, and cared very much for Alexei when he was sick a bed. She was very religious and practical...Yes; but I can't like her especially.

I wait for your opinions!  :D

I think so many people like her because she was so incredibly beautiful.  Even though it's superficial, it's one of the huge reasons why people like someone.  It goes for me too.  It's a big reason why Olga is my favorite.

It's a good reason for me! I liked Olga very much just for her beauty. Of course, it's not only for this I like her...But I can understand those who admires her for her exotical beauty. She had a sort of "Eastern beauty"...Didn't she?

I think so.  Most people said Tatiana was the most  beautiful of the four girls; she was fashionably pale, had dark hair and gray eyes, and her eyes were oddly shaped and far apart with the Hessian features from her mother... she looked exotic and therefore more attractive to men, and was so tall and slender too.  I of course was not a big fan of Tatiana until recently as I amwriting a long sort of biography about her; she was interesting.  People think she was just the bossy one of OTMA, but at the same time she was unselfish in her desire to please her mother--but also used this to her advantage to manipulate, as I see it, to get things she or her sisters wanted since she knew how to keep cool and charm her way into a "yes" answer--and was a talented pianist and artist just like her older sister.  She also suffered a lot in her short life, falling in love like her older sister did, and him apparently loving her back... and Olga also having a crush on this man... as well as trying to calm her mother during all the anxious times from 1917-18.

Lanie,
I am curious, who won Tatiana's heart?

I believe it was Dmitri Malama.

Actually, that's a fantastic question. Tatiana has always been my favourite, but less for her beauty than the fact that I saw her as the most like me (Olga is a VERY close second), and I have a great deal of admiration for her character. The one to take over when Alix needed rest and Aleksei was sick was Tatiana. Tatiana was a more capable nurse than her more sensitive sister, and Tatiana was trusted enough to be put in charge of Aleksei and the household at Tobolsk when Nikolai and Alix left with Maria. Tatiana was also a dreamer and greatly inclined to help others, like Olga, but did so quietly and in a practical manner. She was regal, but also had something of her mother's shyness. To me, she's always been very human, just like her sisters, and I can certainly relate to that capable, practical nature. That's me, the cool-headed one running the show in a crisis. lol

i think she was quite quiet (a dark horse could be), but her unusual looks made people wonder how she fitted in the family (my opinion anyways :-X)

I never really liked Tatiana as much as I did her sisters. Sometimes I would even forget about her. Until recently when I began to understand her and her character more. I seemed to understand her thinking better. I think the reason that she is probably the least popular is because its hard to relate to her most of the time. She never really did anything that I can relate to.
Sometimes it does seem as though Tatiana doesn't belong in her family because of her looks, but I've noticed that she does resemble Alexei alot.

Tatiana always seems to be the glue that holds the whole family together, i always thought she had this nak for helping people and looking after people, thats why she's my fave.
Its not because of her physical beauty either as i always thought Maria was the prettiest

Tatiana has always stood out for me from the crowd of OTMA.  Her looks of course are immediately apparent and different from her sisters'.

But I admire strength and dignity and a quiet but observant presence in all women.

Tatiana seems to be the "one who got things done".  From my readings she appears to have gone farther in producing results for those in need.  For example the ambulances during the war.

Her direct looks into the camera are haunting to me.  She seems to be daring the photographer to capture the inner person.  In all of her photos from young girl to young woman she has that direct look.  There is no coyness.

While she is sitting on her mother's balcony and looking out, she also appears to be looking inward.  A friend once told me that "When we look out a window, we aren't really looking out, but are looking in."  This pensiveness is so apparent in Tatiana.  I wish I could know what she was thinking.

For me, Tatiana is my favorite for all these reasons.

Alixz-
Very well said! Your friend who made that comment about looking out of windows is quite poetic!

I agree about the photos. I think she is amazingly gorgeous. I also love how she keeps a cool head. Every group needs a leader and Tatiana was a wonderful one for OTMA.

Hmmm, I've never liked Tatiana. She's always struck me as more cold and aloof than her sisters. I know that she was unselfish, practical, caring etc., but those features have never phased me much about her. Perhaps because I relate so closely to Olga I can't understand as well her personality. While Tatiana was lovely, after the 1914 formal photos of the girls, she became sickly and pale looking. Olga and Marie were the only ones who aged well from childhood.

One of my friends said her favorite was Tatiana because Tatiana always kept her guessing. You really can't pin down a personality for her.
