Whom would you cast for an "Ella" movie
« on: April 18, 2005, 04:32:22 PM »
Don't you think it is about time for a movie about Ella. There have been so many semi-accurate to almost completely fiction movies about her more famous sister and her family. And practically all of them ignore the older sister completely. She practically doesn't exist, or perhaps is to profound for the movie directors. In many ways Ella is a so much more fascinating and more interesting character than Alix. I could never imagine a movie solely about Alexandra without also concentrating heavily on her husband, children and, of course, Rasputin and even Anna. Ella is, at least for me, a totally different story. A society beauty turning into a nun! In fact there is so much about her to be explored in a movie that you might even need a mini-series to do justice not just to the story of her life but , more importantly, to her complex and fascinating character, merits, flaws and all.
My candidate for the role of Ella would definitely be Nicole Kidman. There is certainly a resemblance, but they also share the same kind of stunning elegant beauty. A Grace Kelly could have been a wonderfully graceful Ella as well, although I would have a hard time imagining her both as a vivacious society lady, as Ella was in her younger days, and in a nun's habit. But I think Kidman could pull it off wonderfully.
Whom would you cast?
PS. Who would be your Sergei?

Oh no, I don't think Nicole Kidman  :)
I think the only person who could even begin to play Ella would be unknown who had never played in anything before.
I saw a similar film once in France about another saint - the film was called 'Il Suffit D'Aimer' - all the characters were unknown local people & it was the best, most moving & most realistic film about the central character I have ever seen in my life. (It was FAR superior to any Hollywood version of the same person's life).
The only way Ella could be presented on film, I think, could be that way!  :)

I think she would be much more a "Meryl Streep" (at least later in life) than either "Nicole Kidman" or "Grace Kelly". For one thing Meryl looks more like Ella, neither Grace nor Nicole look like her at all with their snub noses!  ;D

Ella - Milla Jovovich or Isabella Rossellini or Uma Thurman.

Oh no! I never found Meryl that pretty (attractive but not beautiful) and next to her saintliness Ella is best known for her beauty.

There's someone I've read about whose renowned for her luminosity and I can't place it right now.  ???

There are some that would've been good at certain ages but now it could be trickier--you may need an older/younger depending on the time the movie would be placed.

(These 3 have all been Oscar-nominated or won)

And remember, work can be done on features like noses (witness Nicole K in The Hours).

Yes, Grand Duke, Isabella Rossellini is EXACTLY who came to mind after I'd posted my last post saying nobody could.
I think she would do really well even to the accent! (but is she quite old now??)

She's around 50 now I think. I can see her at all. Milla J. is a not-very-good actress (see her as Joan of Arc)

Oh heavens Isabella's daughter, whos name I dont think I know, looks more like Ingrid than Isabella ever did, in my opinion. She is a stunning beauty. Does anyone know who her father is?

Also I always loved Meryl Streep and found her to be a great beauty as a younger women. I can see her playing Ella with in older age with some dark brown hair.

I'd go for Meryl Streep. Nicole Kidman just doesn't have any class.

Well if I saw a woman that looked like Ella walking down the street I'd take a double take. If I seen a woman that looked like Nicole Kidman walking down the street I'd take a double take. Meryl Streep does not do that for me. Its not the same beauty, Meryl does not have that affect on men Like Ella and Nicole Kidman would. Meryl doesn't have those classic features either Nicole does she looks like a Victorian beauty. Nicole is the type of girl that would make me want to be a better person lol. Like Ella would. Most people also think that out of the "HOT" actresses Nicole Kidman is the classiest and the best.

Nicole Kidman is a cheap Hollywood-manufactured blonde.
