Maryl can play Anyone but honestly you need glasses cause she doesnt look a bit like Elisabeth.

Did you work picking up the casting of "Young Victoria"? Tee hee.

Nope she is too old to play Ella now. Meryl was never a first class beauty like Ella.

She could really play the sequal "Old Victoria" Hee Tee Hee

So sorry to be reviving a very old thread, but I just couldn't help myself and had to throw in my two cents! :D When it comes to casting, I think it's important to remember that Ella was considered a great beauty. Personally, I don't think that any actress resembles her, but the first actresses that came to my mind were Marion Cotillard and Amber Heard.

Marion is a well-established actress and I personally consider her very beautiful. Her chocolate brown/auburn hair, pure blue eyes, delicate smile and flawless, fair skin - which, I believe, are all features that Ella possessed - could make her an appropriate candidate. Their face shapes are different, but hey, there's bound to be some physical differences between Ella and the actress who would portray her.

Amber Heard is also a great beauty and I think her face shape is much more similar to Ella's, although she does have a very sultry appearance. But generally, lookswise, I think she would be a very appropriate choice and looks beautiful naturally with no/minimal makeup as well, as I'm sure Ella would not be portrayed with heavy makeup on the screen, anyway.

She played the villian, Talia Ra-Ghul, in The Dark Knight Rises.

Sadly It didn't worked with the pics.

Well if someone or someday want produce a movie about them I would choose them

It would start with the death of their mother and end with the death of alix and Ella

For example ,

Start;

- death of their mother
- fell in love and married( good and bad times in their marriage)
- tragedies :
V: Alice is deaf how she get through it.
E, marriage with serge , jeoulsy, death from serge
I; illness of her son's and the death from henry junior how she get through it
A; life in Russia, alexej illness , Rasputin

Well it a example..i would love to see a movie about them

A Movie About Ella is Being Produced.

The shooting of the film about the Lutheran princess and the Orthodox Saint Elizabeth Fedorovna Romanova will began in Kazan. The role of the Grand Duchess will be performed by the People’s Artist of Russia, ballerina Ilze Liepa. The film’s director will be Alexey Barykin.

Our group began to work on a film about St. Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova. The events of the picture unfold in the period from the time of the reign of Alexander III until 1918, - said Barykin. - Very large, serious historical material, which must be handled as carefully as possible. I act as the author of the script and the director. It will be a full-length picture at the junction of documentary and feature films. Filming takes place in Kazan, in the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent of Mercy in Moscow, which was founded by Elizaveta Romanova in 1910. We have already visited Alapaevsk, on the site of the martyrdom of Elizabeth Feodorovna on July 18, 1918. Soon there is a trip to Jerusalem, where the holy body rest in the Mary Magdalene Church.

The premiere will be held on July 18, 2018.

This is Ilze Liepa, she will play Ella in the movie:

"The Most difficult thing but an essential one
is to love Life, to love it even while one
suffers, because Life is all, Life is God,
and to love Life means to love God.”
-- Leo Tolstoy

I was thrilled when I heard about this a while ago! Unfortunately, I was unable to obtain much information due to my lack of knowledge of the Russian language, so thank you for providing some extra details in English.

It's so wonderful that there is a movie being produced for Ella. I always found it quite surprising and disappointing that she has never been shown or even mentioned in other Romanov films, with the exception of Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny (1996) where you momentarily see her death scene and a voiceover by Alexei.

I suppose it is very likely that the film will also feature an actress portraying her sister Alix as well as other actors/actresses portraying the Imperial Family?

To my eyes, Ilze Liepa looks a pretty good likeness for Ella, but she will need to leave off all the make-up to do the part properly.

She has brown eyes, however, and I have a suspicion that Ella's were blue.
