Has anyone noticed the hair?
« on: May 16, 2009, 09:51:37 AM »
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed in most Romanov movies the actresses have their hair in the style of OTMA during the 1914 photographs even when they are taken to the basement.
Example: Nicholas & Alexandra
Rasputin (Alan Rickman ver)

I can't recall the hair style in Lost Prince.

Romanovy was almost excluded, except the early scenes when they are at AP.  The actresses especially the younger have hairstyles of the 1914 photographs considering that it is 1917 and Maria had her hair up by then.  At least Romanovy tried to make it as historically accurate as possible even though the girls had their heads shaved for real,  I guess with budget they couldn't afford short wigs.

It is true. Why? Well, IMO, because Romanov films often portray famous hairstyles, clothes, seen in the most famous photo season, just it was around 1913/4. Maria started to put her hair up in summer of 1914.

Don't you mean 1915?  She came of age in 1915 :)  Thank God I'm not the only one to notice the hairstyles.

Maria started to put her hair up in 1914, really!  See:

And, I think movies should show different ways of clothing/hairstyles for different years.

In Romanovy they copied details of the clothing OTMA wore.  During the scene when they are walking through Tobolsk  the actresses wore a replica of this:

And when they were sliding down the silde their costumes resembled this including the hats.

During the scene where they are dancing in Toblosk,  the actresses are wearing replicas of this.

I think that you are right.  Those photos of 1913-14 are the most famous and the most published.

Those who are making films of the Romanovs look for pictures to emulate and find that session.  This girls were not photographed much during the war except in their nurses uniforms and not at all for public use during their imprisonment.

The pictures that we see now from Vyrubova's albums and others were not available until recently on a huge scale.  And that is because of the Internet.

But at least we always know which one is Tatiana because of the bobbed hair wig.  One thing, though, about Romanovy - I found it easier to identify the girls by their looks.  That movie did a much better job than some of the others.  And Assassin of the Tsar was also very good with its portrayal of the girls.

You are right. Romanovy gives to me best portrayal of the girls. I would say real Olga was there.  :-D

Olga is perfect in Romanova. Anastasia too. I was not really sure about Tatiana and Maria was - sorry - a disaster. The girl didn´t look too much like her to me AND she was the one sister that didn´t get a chance to show her true character. there are scenes I´m missing in this wonderful film.... For example Alix going out to soldiers and taking Maria with her...

I thought the girl protraying Tatiana was fine.  Maria was a bit effy,  I guess during auditions the girl had long hair and read her part.  I thought Maria came across as being a bit "slow" or not all there.

When their getting their head shaved "Maria" was the only one not to get emotional.  She seemed relaxed and comfortable.
