Really fascinating! Isn't there a bigger one?

I wish I knew where to find a bigger version. I'd never even heard of it till yesterday when I stumbled across this small image. I wouldn't be surprised if it could be found in some old auction catalogue somewhere, but if so, I've never seen it.

It says Private Collection, so I am assuming they do not want to be known owning that picture.......

I have been looking for that image in a proper size for quite some time with no luck.
I, as Katy, found it in that wonderful catalogue of Mr Reisberg.

Mr Reisberg's online catalogue clearly shows that the "Winterhalter and the courts of europe" exhibition only showed a fraction of Winterhalter's work.  It's not surprising that this painting has not seen the light of day in a major exhibition when you see all the other ones in the catalogue that also have never been seen. We are just lucky that there is this little image that will enable use to ID it if we find it unlabelled elsewhere.

A very nice version of the image Sissi. It's been well painted, do you know who the artist is?  Thank you for sharing it with us.

The first of the pictures looks really great.  She was talented. No; I think that Alix didn't paint and Thyra neither. But, am I wrong or Alix culd draw quite well? Matbe I'm mistaken her to another one... :-\

I think that they were all tought to paint when younger - by well known artists from what I have read - It was a skill expected of young, aristocratic ladies in the period.  However only Ella and Empress Marie and Olga Alexandrovna seem to have carried on lessons into adulthood. You sometimes see paintings they have done and they are very good and a credit to their teachers.  I'm sure I've seen some pictures of paintings done by Alexandra on postcards  in watercolour for friends in the early years of her marriage and they were very good paintings, but I don't recall ever seeing an oil painting by her....but she did do embroidery and sold it for charity at various events.
