It is also Constitution Day (a national holiday) in Denmark, since Frederik VII signed the new democratic constitution on the 5th of June 1849, thereby ending more than 200 years of absolutism. And the newly minted constitutionally monarch's perception of his new role? "I guess this means that from now on I can sleep as long as I want." :-)

Haha, yes, Frederik VII was an erratic, difficult monarch, but rather folksy too.

Just to put him in persepctive: He was the predecessor of Dagmar aka Empress Maria Feodorovna 's father Christian IX as King of Denmark. He was twice divorced and his third, morganatic wife was that Countess Danner whom Dagmar and her siblings were forbidden to socialize with. As a born commoner, Countess Danner was one of the people who influenced him towards constitutional monarchy.
