The name is known in America but is not common. Oddly enough, both of the Russian ladies I know are called Tatiana (but with slightly different spellings). Makes me think it is still a common name in Russia?

I wish it was more widely known, and more common, because it is a lovely lovely name, fit for a Grand Duchess.

Titania and Tatiana could be confused, although I have never confused them at all. But I see your point-two names much alike in spelling, even sound, but coming from different places and with different meanings, can be confused.

The reason, why it's spelled different in different languages is, that then it turns out to be pronounced the same ;D

In Russian, if you said it as Tatian-ee, that would be putting into the Genetive case: i.e. Tatiana's.

I have found a meaning of Tatiana´s name: it is the name of a girl, who come from an ancient Roman family of Tatias. It also means "to apoint" or "to divide". The source is the largest database of names in Czech.

Really? I have always read in name books that Tatiana means "Fairy Princess" or "Fairy Queen."

Really. Just last week they also were discussing the name in the radio and they said it wasn´t of Slavonic origin (which surprised my mother) but of Romano, and it was simply a nem given to a girl very highly born...

Titania is the name of the queen of the fairies in William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream.  The name was also used as an epithet for some of the daughters of the Titans from Graeco-Roman mythology.

Tatiana, however, is a different name with a different origin.  It is the feminine form of the Roman family name Tatianus, which is an adjective that means "of Tatius," where Tatius was the name of a king of the Sabines, who afterwards reigned jointly with Romulus of Rome.  I like how such a royal girl had such a royal name.

Antie is correct. They are two different names, with different origins. Tatiana, very Royal.

No Pasha,
Georgi is correct. The proper pronunciation is "Taht'yana" not Tah-Tee-ana
Taking the risk of being a pain with the names thing...After the pronunciation explained by Robert; Can we write the name like this: "Tatyana"?
OR "Tatiana" is the right way of writing it?
OR Maybe both are correct?

I think that maybe both spellings are correct? I know I have seen people spell it both ways before.

Yes, both spellings are correct. It depends on which transliteration system you use to convert between cyrillic and latin letters. я can be spelled as "ia" or "ya" in English depending on which system you use. American English most commonly uses "Tatiana" because the Library of Congress transliteration system represents я as "ia."

This site includes a transliteration table for the cyrillic alphabets used in 6 slavic languages, showing the six most widely used transliteration systems:
