Yes in Mafalda Il Coraggio di una Principessa Princess Clotilde Courau play the role of Mafalda's sister Giovanna, the Queen of Bulgaria.

It's possible that Rai International aired Maria Jose L'Ultima Regina in english language, but I'm not sure.

Love to see it in English language or at least English subtitled...

Quote
There have been many rumors that Umberto was unfaithful, or even bisexual, but isn't true

Let's correct this right now!

I know an elderly gentleman who, as a pretty young man, was kept by a Swedish baron. (The Swedish royal family nicknamed him "the little baron".)

He's far too grand, successful, and worldly to be bothered retailing an untruth (had a career in Hollywood, etc), and is a fund of amusing anecdotes given his past -- he's shared some of his personal history on television, but not explicitly!

He told me that he had once been sexually propositioned on the Lido. He turned the man down.

However, a year later at the Savoy Grill in London he was formally introduced to the man, who turned out to be Umberto!

He said the ex-King was very gentlemanly and droll about it.

"I believe young man we have met before" he said.

I bowed very low: "Yes Your Majesty, I believe we have..."

Ironically, he became friendly with Princess Maria Pia, and used to Cha Cha with her!

Both venues are a bit too good to be true:
The Lido as scene of the most famous gay ephebophile story (Der Tod in Venedig) and a young cock, if you excuse the pun, being grilled by a Savoy at the Savoy Grill.

The Lido was certainly upscale 100 years ago, but I haven't gotten the impression it was a playground for royalty. (Especially not in their own country, they usually indulge in "exotic tastes" abroad. But perhaps the Lido was therefore a great place for Umberto to "cruise" incognito....)

Naturally you're welcome to overthink it, but every man and his dog is aware of Death in Venice, and implying the Savoy Grill was used a cute pun for a fiction is not the gentleman's style.

In any case, it's far from being his most interesting recollection, but I thought worth sharing considering that the suggestion that Umberto wasn't bisexual, given the amount of evidence from people still living, is risible.

That is of course why it would be a witty quip even if it's not true. Well, it all sounds like something straight out of Proust and perhaps it's as ineffable with regard to its claimed veracity as that work. Dites-nous, your friend didn't engage in a threesome with Marcel and Mann at Hôtel Saint James & Albany?

Wit? Perhaps focus on mastering English first.

A witty quip by your friend, not me.

I heard from another source he liked men too. It would be interesting to find someone to turn him down him being handsome and a king to boot...

Well, all men are not royalty-obsessed queens like us, Eric. Somewhere out there there actually exist heterosexual men who would turn down gay sex with a king, impossible as that is to comprehend for us whose idea of hell is a straight republic!

I think it would be easier as he aged, although I think he kept his figure unlike Foxy Ferdinand...
