"The Wandering Princess: Helene of France, Duchess of Aosta, 1871-1951

A full-length biography of Helene of France, Duchess of Aosta (1871-1951), by Edward Hanson (published by Fonthill Media, 2017), based upon previously unpublished archival sources.  Although there were some diplomatic rumours suggesting her as a bride for Nicholas Alexandrovich and a mention in his diary that his mother dropped "several hints" about Helene, there is little likelihood that either Nicholas or Helene ever seriously considered marriage with each other as a possibility.

The book "The War in Italy 1943-1945" by Richard Lamb deals with this period from an Italian point of view.
