How were the Sheremetev Counts addressed?

As all Russian Empire counts they were styled Illustrious Highnesses.
Quote
Were they Highnesses?

No, in Russian they were "Siyatelstvo", more correct translation would be Your Illustriouss...ness

I seem to remember that in Ruvingy's titled families of Europe (originally printed during WW1),Irina was HH Princess Felix Youssoupoff while Zenaida was just Princess Y .....Did the Youssoupoffs not have the designation "Most Serene" ?. Just as in England a non royal Duke is "His Grace"......

Wouldn't this Ukase then (ie paragraph 3) make all future descendants Princess Yussupovas? For example Countess Cheremetev and Mrs. Xenia Sfiris........

On having more of a think i'm going to suppose that the bit about "the class rights he has" would negate this but, I'm not entirely sure?

jybenton,

I think you misunderstood paragraph 3. It says the eventual descendents would bear the title and surname of Her Highness's consort (meaning Felix's) and not Irina's. Basically, Irina was allowed to retain the imperial title for herself, but couldn't pass it on to her daughter. Their daughter would receive the title of her father's side of the family.

I think we actually found her title....When she was born her title was "HH Princess Irina Alexandrovna of Russia" and after this "HH Princess Irina Yussupova of Russia".....And i agree that if she married GD Dmitri she would have become Grand Duchess Irina Alexandrovna of Russia

about Irina's title i can say one thing.
she was not a Grand duchess. According to the old rule Grad Duke (Duchess) is a son, grandson of the ruling emperor, if i'm not mistaken. Then they had some restrictions on it at the end of the 19 century.
Irina was a daughter of Sandro, grand duke Alexander Mikhailovich (the son of g.d Mikhail, grandson of the emperor Nicolas I) and g.d Xenia (daughter of the emperor Alexander III). But in Russia all the titles are inherited to male line.
that's why Irina is not a Grand Duchess, she is THE PRINCESS OF THE BLOOD, in Russia we say The Princess of the Imperial Blood.
After the marrige she lost all the ruling rights and the name, her title was Princess Yusupova.

If I may just a simple question about titles....

Had Irina been a Grand Duchess - would she keep that title after her marriage to Felix, or would she gaind "lower" title of a Princess?

I know. I was asking for a different reason. IF any Grand Duchess married a Prince (which is a lower title) would she become Princess or would she be allowed to keep her "higher rank"? That is what I meant.

My fault! i missed the date of discussion. but i wanted to make clear some points. to be honesty, there a few people even in russia (country with imperial past) who exactly knows about word "princess of the blood" ))))

haha, there are enough questions for beaten topic ))))

A wife always took her husband's title -- she did not stop being a Grand Duchess, but she would be styed by her husband's title - but with her own HIH because she did not lose that at marriage.  Grand Duchess Helen for example was HIH Princess Nicholas of Greece after her marriage.
