Grand Duchess Elisabeth in Crimea

While I was reading a section in Felix Yusupov's Lost Splendor , he mentions that Elisabeth had went with he and his family aboard to Crimea and Dmitri went as well.
I am interested to know if Elisabeth and Dmitri stayed with the Yusupovs, or in a different palace nearby.

They stayed with the Yusupovs in Koreiz.

The Grand Duchess and her husband GD Sergei never had any estate of their own in the Crimea. After 1894 year, death of Alexander III in Livadia, the grand ducal couple avoided visits to the Crimea at all. Only after GD Sergei's death Grand Duchess in 1906 took her foster-children GD Dmitriy and GDss Maria to the Crimea's estate of Count Kleinmikhel for a couple of months.

Do you have any more information on Count(ess) Kleinmikhel estate in the Crimea. Where it was located? If it became a Sanatorium like so many estates?  It would be incredible if you had a picture.  We know from past postings, you have the abiltiy to provide incredible facts and photos.

Right now can say only that Countess' estate was near Koreiz, not far from Ai-Todor. Countess Ekaterina Petrovna Kleinmikhel lived in her estate almost all year round ( by the way she was a granddaughter of famous Russian historian Nikolai Karamzin). I'll try to find more info on her estate: )

Books are my main source. The University didn't learn much, the self-education rules.

Recently I've bought a rare book of memoirs of Countess Vera Kleinmikhel, daughter of Ekaterina Petrovna, mentioned in my previous post.
The Kleinmikhels were close to the Imperial Family and Vera's recollections are full of mentions of the Romanovs and their relatives. Vera itself was firstly married to Prince Dmitriy Orbeliani, brother of Sophia Orbeliani, one of the favourite ladies-in-waiting of Empress Alexandra Fedorovna.
The reading of Vera's memoirs is really entertaining, also the book contains some rare photos. Unfortunately, there is no any photo of the Kleinmikhel mansion in Koreiz in the book, only the word description of the editors.
The mansion was 2-storied, quite uninteresting in interior but suited for the landscaoe around. Many Royal and Imperial guests had been there, even Queen Nathalie of Serbia. The building didn't survive.


Later I' ll post the plan of the Koreiz mansions and estates.

I was fortunate to have purchased this book a few years ago. I found that she glossed over many significant events that would have affected her life but generally it was a worthwhile addition to my library.

Here's a plan of the whole Koreiz village, the former estate of Princess A.N. Golitsina. In the end of the XIX it was sold and divided between different owners.



You can see that the Kleinmikhel's area was quite large.
