Miskhor

Dolgorukies had other estate before the revolution -
Miskhor .
It was the famous Naval Hospital during and after the WWII. My grand grand father lived in the palace and worked in the Hospital at the end of 40ths.

It is interesting that you mention MISKHOR.
I was reading IN THE MARBLE PALACE and Prince Gavril Konstantinovich mentions staying there on several occasions.
I had never heard of this estate before and assumed it belonged to the family.  I wonder if they bought it from the Dolgorukaya's or if it was own by the Crown and just loaned to the Konstantiovichs.  
Does you or anyone have more of the history of Miskhor?

I have just been reading First to Go Back by Princess Irina Skariantina and she has a reference to Mishkor:

    "Leaving Alupka, we passed through Mishor. "Over there," said our driver, pointing to the park, "is the palace built for Alexander III. One day when he was driving along this road he said to one of his ministers who was with him, ‘What a lovely spot. I should like to have a house out there.’ The minister took it as a command and unknown to the Tsar had the palace built. Three years later when it was completed the minister was driving by the same place with Alexander, and called his attention to it, hoping it would come as a pleasant surprise. But the Tsar had forgotten his desire, or that he had ever expressed the wish, and scarcely noticing it, remarked: ‘What is that ugly place?' "
     I had never heard that story in all my life, but Vic chuckled over it and was very much amused."

She refers to passing by Ai-Toldor, Haraks, and Dulber before Alupka and it seems they are different estates.

Can anyone help clarify and does anyone have more information and/ or pictures of Mishkor?

Sanatorium "Dulber" is situated at the center of resort Mishor, directly on the sea-coast.


Dulber or Miskhor, it is the same palace.

Hey , At the present, in the resort's village Miskhor
( after Oreanda go Gaspra , Koreiz and Miskhor)
there are 3 palaces :
1) Sanatorium " Miskhor"
2) Sanatorium "Dyulber"
3) Former Yusupov palace

I just would like to say that there is not only "Dyulber" in Miskhor.

Before the war there were  villa called "Nyura " where Gorky liked to stay.

There are two famous statues there on the beach:
one is "mermaid" and one is  " Girl Arzy and robber Ali-baba"

According to the 1883 guide-book,
Miskhor was a village of Crimea Tatars.
But the name of the village is Greek - Misso-hori.
In one document from Genova, they called the village as Musicori.
In 1883 in Miskhor there were the following dachas :
- Shuvalov
- Bobrinsky
- Zavadovsky
- Vorontsov-Dashkov

In Koreiz there were the following dachas:
- Goncharov
- Countess of Sumarokova- Elston
- Count Shakhovskoy
- First dacha built by Golitsyn at the beginning of 19th century.

According to the guide - book of 1914 , in Miskhor village there were only one dacha - dacha of Countess Dolgorukaya.
Dyulber was not located directly in the village.

It seems that Countess Dolgorukaya did a very good buisness . She had one palace and a lot of the dachas in the territory for rent.
She also  gave her land to rent.

Finally I want to say that Dyulber and Miskhor - are two
different palaces . They just  are located near each other.

Mishkor is mentioned in the memoirs of the late Sofka Skipwith, nee Princess Doulgoruky "Sofka". The Princess was 10 when in 1917 she travelled south with her paternal grandmother Princess Olga Petrovna (nee Countess Shouvalova) to Mishkor where they lived till April 1919 when they left Yalta aboard HMS Marlborough as part of the Dowager Empresses retinue.Princess Olga in exile followed the nomadic pattern of many emigree's, living at various times in London,Rome,Nice and finally Versaillies where she died in 1927.Olga' elder son was the chamberlain to the Dowager.

The sanatorium was built in 1955 as a luxury resort for trade union officials and "advanced workers".

So the picture posted by Reco and my picture are not of the same place?

They don't look alike at all, so I assumed they were different.  However, did the Soviets really build something so archetecturally exotic in 1955?  Their taste was usually more severe and streamlined.

Or did they, as usual, simply convert an already existing palace into their "sanatorium"?

Your picture displays sanatorim "Ukraine" which was really built in 1955, and by the way after that an architect was imprisoned in a prison camp as the Soviet bosses considered the buildings in the sanatoirum too much luxurious.
