Dear MTOA,
Since time, place, and history disallows me further understanding of historical signifcance, the only one I might say who was able to speak and mingle in a Russian Court, and serve a distinguished career, was my father's, mother's, grandfather, Prince Count Field Marshal Alexander Italiski Vasilievich Suvorov, whom served directly under Tsarina Catherine The Great.
As to a Romanov, there may have been that personal contact, but because of the Russian Revolution, and personal history of family lives unknown, dead or alive on my father's side, all has been lost. Still, I'm very proud to have this person in history as a relative to have been a well known and revered leader of the old russia. It offers our daughter a proud historical figure to relate to. I understand even today, he is still remembered in history, and as well known throughout Russia, as Washington is to those in the United States. When I went to Russia with my husband, someone asked me if I had any relatives who had been born, or served Russia. When I mentioned the name of Suvorov, people suddenly broke into smiles, and greeted me much more warmly. It was as if the old field marshal were still alive. I could not believe that even in this day and age, that name value registered, and really still means something and holds significace to the people of Russia.
