I wish I knew someone who knew the IF, if only I was born in the 50's then, there could of been a chance for me then to search for people, but now its almost hopeless!

I heard that my great-great-grandmother saw Nicholas II. on a parade in Potsdam. So only a from-far-away-seeing  ;)

I'll play! No direct ancestors. Cousins in my family tree who certainly met members of the Imperial Family:

1. Daria von Lieven - wife of the Russian Ambassador to St. James during the Regency period.
2. Paul Schilling von Canstatt - Russian Ambassdor and inventor of the telegraph.
3. Paul Beckendorff - Marshall of the Imperial Court

My grandmother's stories about her SVC cousins in Russia got me interested in Russian history many years ago.

Wow! that is certainly some family tree! I'm so jealous of you all--The only relatives that I have from Russia are my great-grandfather and his family, but they lived in a shtetl before eventually moving to America.  I therefore don't have any sightings to report.  :'(

Dear MTOA,

Since time, place, and history disallows me further understanding of historical signifcance, the only one I might say who was able to speak and mingle in a Russian Court, and serve a distinguished career, was my father's, mother's, grandfather, Prince Count Field Marshal Alexander Italiski Vasilievich Suvorov, whom served directly under Tsarina Catherine The Great.

As to a Romanov, there may have been that personal contact, but because of the Russian Revolution, and personal history of family lives unknown, dead or alive on my father's side, all has been lost. Still, I'm very proud to have this person in history as a relative to have been a well known and revered leader of the old russia. It offers our daughter a proud historical figure to relate to. I understand even today, he is still remembered in history, and as well known throughout Russia, as Washington is to those in the United States. When I went to Russia with my husband, someone asked me if I had any relatives who had been born, or served Russia. When I mentioned the name of Suvorov, people suddenly broke into smiles, and greeted me much more warmly. It was as if the old field marshal were still alive. I could not believe that even in this day and age, that name value registered, and really still means something and holds significace to the people of Russia.

I do not know anyone who has ever met a Romanov.  On the other hand, I have an interesting story about actually meeting someone connected with Revolutionary Russia.  Many, many years ago (I am embarrassed to say how many) when I was a student and working at Columbia University in New York City, I met a tiny little old woman who must have been at least seventy or eighty at the time.  She would come daily to Columbia's School of International Affairs (where I worked) and record her  memoirs for the Russian Institute's Oral History Project.  Her name was Ksenia Denikin, and she was the widow of the famous White Army General Anton Denikin.   I  read that the bodies of Anton and Ksenia Denikin have recently been exhumed from their original burial place in New Jersey and reburied on Russian soil.

Also, if you are into the "six degrees of separation" theory, I can trace three people back to Lenin.  I knew an old man who was a friend of Armand Hammer.  Hammer  did business with Lenin after the revolution.  Although there is no indication that Lenin ever met any Romanovs or even Kerensky, there must have been a few people who had met both Lenin and a Romanov.  We know that Trotsky, for example, met with Anna.

Anyway, these are my stories, for what they are worth.

I think Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip and Charles met grand duchess OLGA ALEXANDROVNA but i don`t think that counts because she`s not really part of the IF.

They also probaly meet Irina and Felix Yussopov because Irina died in 1970 and Felix died in the 1960's. Queen Elizabeth II did or Price Philip probaly did.

I know her life was in part very sad. She did have much joy though through her own family and her art.

The late Queen Mother of course also had met the Dowager Empress and of course Xiena. She agreed to speak to author Coryne Hall about both women. I can imagine Maria Feodorovna was curious about Philip as she was close to her sister-in-law, Queen Olga. Photos show he was quite a handsome little boy.
