I'm so confused. How is Leonore an HRH, a princess and a duchess of Sweden. Has the King set a new president? Or, are the rules in Sweden that much different from all the other monarchies?

There has been no formal decision on this, as far as I know. It's just a new precedent based on the cognatic succession law. But there has been some gradual development. During the agnatic succession order untill 1980, "princess" was really just a courtesy title with no substance, as a princess had no succession rights. That only the title of "prince" was substantive is well showed by the fact that only they held dukedoms. When cognatic succession was introduced in 1980, the freshly minted Crown Princess Victoria, then 3 years old, was given a dukedom. Her sister Madeleine and daughter Estelle naturally received one at birth. So it's only logical that Madeleine's daughter, who, just like her cousin Estelle has succession rights through her mother, as a descendant of Carl XVI Gustaf (as per the Succession Law of 1810, 1 §)  also is a princess and receives one.

BTW a more critical issue may be the Succession Laws requirement that princes and princesses must be "brought up in Sweden". The Court has stated they interpret this as a requirement from the age of six, i.e. start of schooling.

BTW the same thing happened in Belgium when they introduced cognatic primogeniture in 1991. The children of Princess Astrid were upgraded from agnatic Archdukes of Austria-Este to Princes and Princesses of Belgium.

Да здравствует Её Королевское Высочество Леонор Лилиан Мария (Бернадот О'Нил), Принцесса Шведская*, герцогиня Готландская!

* Is there any constitutional difference in Russian here between styling her Принцесса Шведская (adjectival) or Швеции (genitive)? I have noticed that lesser royals usually get the adjectival style, while reigning monarchs get the genitive of the country's name.

But I noticed that her Russian Wikipedia article styles her " Принцесса Швеции". Is it because of her unique constitutional position, i.e. being наследница Швеции just like the Romanovs were наследник Норвежкий.
Anyone who knows?

It has been announced that HRH Princess Leonore will be christened on the 8th June 2014 at Drottningholm Palace Church, which is exactly a year to the day Madeleine and Chris got married!

Princess Madeleine's son, Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf, Duke of Ångermanland, was christened today in the chapel of Drottningholm Palace, by the German-born Archbishop(ess) Antje Jackelén.
See http://ru-royalty.livejournal.com/3426522.html for pics.

Godparents:
Prince Carl Philip (maternal uncle), Countess Natascha Abensperg und Traun (paternal aunt), Gustaf Magnuson (maternal cousin), Katarina von Horn (Swedish noblewoman), Henry d'Abo (father's brother-in-law) and Marco Wajselfisz (Jewish?).

The d'Abo family has a very interesting history: Descending from a 16th century family first of Åbo / Aabo (presumably in Denmark, not Åbo / Turku in Finland), then in Århus, Norway, Netherlands Indies and finally in England. Henry d'Abo is the first cousin of the current Duke of Rutland.

BTW it was reported that Madeleine was very upset that her friend Emma Pernald, Carl Philip's ex-girlfriend, was not to be invited. Does Princess Sofia really feel that threatened by her former rival? One would perhaps think that this is a sign that Sofia can't cope with the upper classes' bedhopping games, but then she is hardly respectable middle class herself. Perhaps it's Paradise Hotel / real redneck melodramatic antics showing.

Equally pretentious is of course the spelling "Nicolas", for a name that is usually found in the form "Niklas" in Sweden. At least they could have used the etymologically correct form Nikolas.

Ô-la-la, Swedish Internauts are speculating that Princess Madeleine wanted Emma Pernald to be one of the godparents, but it was vetoed by toffeln (= the slipper, i.e. henpecked) Calle P and his Miss Slitz! Wow, the Swedish RF is really turning into some version of the trashy Kardashians.

How would Carl Phillip and Sofia be able to stop who Madeleine and her husband wanted for their child's godparent though?

How would Carl Phillip and Sofia be able to stop who Madeleine and her husband wanted for their child's godparent though?

In two ways:
- By refusing to attend the baptism, something which would have caused a scandal.
- By Carl Philip refusing to be a godparent himself.
