Imperial Yacht Club
Jmentanko:
Does anybody know what the Imperial Yacht Club looked like? I haven't seen any interior or exterior photos of this exclusive club!
Also, if somebody has information on what it is used for today, please share.
Belochka:
JM, this site has a reasonable photograph of the Imperial River Yacht Club

The original site was in the suburb of Peterhof.
As I understand it, the site was destroyed during WWII and the area underwent restoration in 2000.
Jmentanko:
Thanks for posting that link, Belochka.
It was a nice story, too.
Belochka:
Yes it is a delightful story. I particularily liked the part where the crew noticed that most of the many onlookers while dressed in Russian uniforms stood in the rain.
Imagine the spectacle of the occassion!
;D
Joanna:
From 'St. Petersburg Portrait of an Imperial City' by Boris Ometev and John Stuart on page 185:
"... It was smart in St. Petersburg to belong to a club, of which there were many, catering for specific interests and professions. The Imperial Yacht Club on Morskaya Street was the ultimate in snobbery, with a membership of no more than 150. It had a good chef and elegant premises, and in its congenial atmosphere, where even the Grand Dukes were in the habit of dropping in, friendships were formed and careers made and sometimes destroyed. Many military men used it as a base. Countess Kleinmichel recalls that previously quite ordinary people had a tendency to become unberarable once they gained admittance. There was nothing else quite like it..."
I am not sure if Morskaya to mean Bolshaya Morskaya where both Faberge and Nabokov resided or if it is Malay Morskaya.
