Hi everyone!!! I recently saw the Nicholas and Alexandra exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, and some lingering questions remain! I know the basic history of the family, and how they lived and died...but there are some things I do not understand. I stumbled onto this website, and I was hoping you all might be able to help me out:
1. Alot of the exhibits / artifacts mentioned that they "remained in the house until 1941". What is signifcant about 1941? If the family was taken to Serbia and executed in 1917, what happened to the palace afterwards?
2. Did the family know ahead of time that they were going to be overthrown and/or exectuted? Do you think it's possible they knew it was coming, and as a precaution, sent away some of the most valuable items / belongings in the house for safe keeping, knowing it might all end up being destroyed?
3. What is the state of the palace now? I have read some posts here where people mention it is deteriorating and only a few rooms are open to the public. How / why did the palace survive the revolutions? I would imagine the same people who overthrew / executed the family would have immediatly destroyed the palace.
Those are the only questions I can think of for now....I really enjoyed the exhibit. Has anyone else seen it? What are your thoughts?
Thanks!
