I recently saw in New York City a play called OTMA. The girls looked exactly like the real thing. If you're in the area, it runs through July 3, 2005 and the number is (212) 691-5919 ext 123

Margarita, do you have any pictures of this play?  I'd like to compare OTMA to our real girls.

Hey, does it strike you guys that the directors got the parts of Alexandra and Maria mixed up?  Or at least they got the actress who should be playing Maria mixed up with the part of Alexandra.  The actress playing Alexandra resembles Maria quite a lot!  Sheesh!  Apart from being a million years younger than her daughter, Alexandra looks more like her daughter than her daughter! lol!!! :-X

I'm so silly but the fact that they never seem to put OTMA's hair up in movies, plays, etc drives me batty for some reason... then again I'm a stickler for historical accuracy (and those chignons and buns and whatnot are lovely!).

I have to admit, I like it best when their hair's down.  It's so gorgeous when it's flowing naturally.  :D

Awww!!! This people isn't a bit like our NAOTMAA!!!  :o :o I always thought that Alix (the real one, of course) looked older than she was...This one, looks YOUNGER than Alix was! The only one who is similar to his real character is Rasputin.

I agree with Lanie, i really hate it when they have their hair down when its supposed to be up, it just shows that the producers etc  havent really bothered researching it properly!

Well, Lanie...I must agree with you absolutely. But some movie directors may have some personal problem with women buns...If you saw "Beyond the Prairie" (Laura Ingalls Wilder life), she was portrayed almost all along the scenes with her hair hanging down...In TV Series "Doctor Queen", you may notice the same mistake, and in "Anastasia; the mystery of Anna", the four Tzar daughters are always with their hair flowing naturally...Well; besides when the Revolution started, the girls were supposed to have their heads shaved, or at least, their hair very, very short...As an historian I'm always upset with clothes and hairdoss in historical movies... :-/

In Ventsenosnaya Semya their hair is shaved and short, but the funny thing is, it doesn't grow back! So they have ultra short hair for almost the entire movie. (And at the beginning, 1917, the girls look like they did in 1914...I guess that is the popular image of them in Russia to this day, as most icons seem to depict them on the cusp of WW1 too)
