I  have had this book awhile. By Lindsey Hughes. Are there any other books  about Sophia ?  She's the first great female ruler of Russia. She may be the first really great Russian Ruler. I would like more information on her.  I really enjoyed this book.  Thats why ,I would like to read more on Sophia.

The book by Hughes is the only English language biography about the Regent Sophia that I have ever seen. I am certain that other books exist in the Russian language. There may be a biography or two about the Regent Sophia in French. My favourite place in Moscow is the Novodevichy Monastary where Sophia spent her last years. On a hot humid  summer day one can go through the immense gates and leave all of the street noise and diesel fuel fumes on the other side of the high walls. It is a wonderful place to collect your thoughts and relax.

Thank you David. If I get back to Moscow, and can fight the bill boards, I will go to the convent.  I wonder why there isnt more interest in Sophia.

I also believe that Sophia is a really fascinating person. I actually wrote a short story about her, when I was in high school, for the school literary journal. Although the biography you had read is the only one I have seen about her in English, there is interesting information about her in Peter the Great by Robert Massie as well as Women in Russian History trans. Eve Levin.

Actually, there are not so much book about Sofia even in Russian. I think that Alexey Tolstoy in " Peter the First" roman wrote about her colorfully.
I also have a quite intresting  new book in Russian called "Palace's secrets" about Tsaritsas and Tsarevnas of 17th century.
