Yes, that was very helpful. Thank you for posting. Let me know if you have any more images of the mansion in Tobolsk.

I do indeed. I've started another thread to post them, and hopefully others' as well!

Wonderful! That other picture of Alexandra's sitting room helped me to finally identify the exact "Madonna with Child" by Botticelli of which she owned a copy. I recognized it above Nesterov's "Annunciation".

Thanks!

I have a 600 dpi version as well (this one is 100 dpi). It's too large for ImageShack, so anyone who wants it, please PM me with your email address.

The file is also too big for some email providers, so I uploaded it to megaupload:

When you get there, it'll make you wait 45 seconds, then a 'click here to download button' will appear in the upper right of the screen. Sometimes an ad pops up right over the download button  ::) -- just click the X and it will go away...

Here's another view of Alix's sitting room in Tobolsk -- this one with more paintings/photos on the wall:

When the Kaulbachs came back from Tolbosk they were put in the wrong place.  I have pictures taken in 1917-18 of the Maple Room before the pictures came back.  The cords that held them are still there.

They were sold in New York in the 30's.  We have the sales catalog and plan to put it up.  Somebody in the USA bought them and I'll bet someone has them and doesn't know what they are.  perhaps they will tuen up on Antiques Road Show!

I should also mention that the famous picture of the corner cabinet was taken by Lukomsky during the war.  Nicholas ordered the rooms to be photographed bacuse they thought at the time that they were going to have to evacuate Petrograd and he wanted a record of the palace rooms made so that they could be restored after the war if the Germans damaged them.

One can assume these were the eggs that Alexandra liked because she seldom - if ever - saw the collection at the Winter Palace.  She must not have been very fond of them.

Also, she preferred the ones her children liked or those that has sentimental value to her.  Remember she had no control over what the eggs looked like before she got them.  Court officials made suggestions of colors or themes, but that was all.

Not all of the eggs in the AP were in the corner cabinet.  She alos had some in her bedroom in cases by the window.  I have never seen a photograpgh of these cabinets where you could make anything out.  there were jewel cabinets in the Russian style.  Noble women in Russia kept their jewelry in display cabinets in their bedrooms.

Can someone please post the picture of Olga, Tatiana and Maria sitting on a couch in the Maple Room. Behind them you can see the Faberge eggs in a cabinet. I usually just go the Romanov family album part of the old Alexander Palace website, but now its gone. I don't know why it was removed. It has 4 pages of pics that are not commonly seen in this discussion forum. Please help and thanks.

Thank you so much Sarushka!!! Do you know what year the picture was taken? I thought that it was in 1906 because there were other pics of the grand duchesses in the mauve room.

its hard to make out from this photo....i only see one egg clearly
NOW from a 1914 photo which is more clear we know that alexandra kept 7 eggs in the ccabinet:
Top shelf:
Colonade Egg

Middle Shelf:
Fifteenth Anniversary Egg
Uspensky Cathedral Egg
Tercentennary Egg

Bottom Shelf:
Alexander Palace Egg
Standart Egg
Tsarevich Egg
With the phot dated one would merely have to work backwards from here eliminating the ggs that came later there is no reason to believe alexandra would have removed ones that were her favorite
