I've been very interested in this film! This is the kind of thing where we need some fans who would take the time and sub this for us.

Since I am a anime fan, there are a lot of only Japanese shows I see, and fans sub them.  If I understood Russian, I would do this myself.

Does the DVD work in our American Region DVD players?

I got mine (VHS) via the internet from Arlekino which sells Russian CDs, videos etc. It was about US$7 or 8 which was quite resonable, though I had to top up the order to $20 with CDs as that is the minimum order apparantly. I have seen it available on DVD on various sites, but as I don't have a DVD player I am reliant on 'old' technology! But when I bought my VHS I made sure it was a multisystem one, as none of these videos seem to be available here in New Zealand, and our video system is PAL, whereas American ones are NTSC (or something like that...)

Laura, it is interesting you enjoy anime. Although I don't like anime much, I lived in Japan for many years, and am fluent.

Georgiy,

Could you name the sites you've seen the DVD, on the IMDb site there's no link where to buy. Does it have subtitles?

Anna,
The site I got the video from is www.arlekino.com but I don't think they have it on DVD.  www.rbcmp3.com has it on DVD, but in PAL system, so no good if you are in America or Japan. You could try using a search on yahoo or google and search for Gleb Panfilov videos or Gleb Panfilov DVDs or even Russian videos, Russian DVDs and try some of the websites that come up.

PS, I forgot to add that no, it is not subtitled - completely in Russian with a couple of sentences here and there in English, incl. one by the Tsesarevich that made me laugh (He was commenting on how his mother was reading Pushkin).

Thanks Georgiy,
I'm looking for the DVD and Pal system (region 2) is just excelent as I live in the Netherlands. I can live without subtitles, the story speaks for itself.

Hi Anna,
In that case the rbcmp3 site might be the best option. I have bought from them before. They are in America though, so there is probably places in Europe selling Russian DVDs and on the internet, where you will be able to get the movie and it won't cost so much for shipping! Can you read Cyrillic? Many of these sites are in Russian.

I have checked that site, Georgiy and although it does show the dvd, even has previews but states "this dvd not for sale".
Perhaps it is just not in stock now ?

That's a pity. Still, I expect it would be better for Anna to try and find somewhere in Europe that sells the DVD rather than pay extra for it to come from the US.

I agree, and I shall be in England for the newxt 2 months so hope to find it there. [my player is all-region, so that is not a problem].
If all else fails, I will also be in St. Petersburg for 4 days- THAT should do it!
Cheers,
Robert

Fluent in Japanese?  :o I'm impressed. I've taken some courses on this language and I am very bad

What is this about a blood transfusion? Which daughter was involved, how did the scene play out? Confusion! Was there any reason for it? Does anyone know where this story could have come from? Does anyone know anything about this?

I need help! I've tried to buy this online, and have come to a complete dead end. I even went as far as signing up to a Russian page, and translating every sentence in a translator to try and buy it, but they never registared me at all.

My question, Is anyone willing to sell me one? Or even lend me one? I'll even ship it back to whoever lends me it as soon as I am done watching this.  I know there are no subs, and it only runs on a particular DVD player, but I don't care.. I'll do anyting to watch this film.
*begs on knees* I need your guys help!!  :'( :'(

Well, my luck, so far, is that while in Russia rtecently, I gave the printout to my Russian friend. He has found it, bought it for me, making his copy and then posting it to me. Just how long  it takes to get here is another matter. I guess the lesson-if there is one- is just BE PATIENT, it will get to you eventually.
