Aloha from Kaua'i!

I finally broke down and ordered this DVD - after procrastinating forever about it!!

I bought it from this website myself - it sounds like it was about the same price as Amazon ------   http://www.artpopdvd.com/DVD/48544.aspx

So glad that it is finally widely available!

Does anyone have the individual shots of them that are on the back of the DVD case (i saw a photo of it in this thread don't remember which page) I've seen the photo of "Nicholas" what about the others (especially OTMAA)? If so it would be great if they could be posted... thanks!

Give me a second actually.... found it http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v289/Markhall/Romanov/Palaceunderreno016.jpg

Until recently I was working in Nome Alaska where I met a charming Russian woman who married into the US. We had many Sunday teas, lots of vodka, huge lunches with our husbands, and gave each other gifts for Christmas: I gave her two Romanov books with lots of photos and she gave me the movie with English subtitles!  Its a beautiful movie--costumes, accurate and original locations--a pleasure to watch but there are many departures from the facts.

I feel so fortunate to have met her and received this film; I'd been looking for it for at least a year and a half.

I really liked this film.  I think the actor playing Nicholas is not 100% spot on but what i really enjoyed was the scene on the train where  you got an idea of what it was like to travel by private train.  I like the fact that the film was researched and played by Russians (and filmeed in Russia)

I recently watched this on YouTube, with English subtitles. I liked how "momsy" AF was, but IMHO, they portrayed her as waaaaay too healthy. I have this issue with N&A also - they have some token scenes with a cane, but overall, she's downright spry. As for Nicholas, I think the actor captured his essence, but the facial bone structure was all wrong.

I agree with you about Alexandra and the way she is portrayed.

I have said it before and many of you don't know the actress that I am referencing, but to me, the Alexandra in this film looks too much like Michael Learned playing Olivia "Mama" Walton from the US TV series "The Waltons".

I kept expecting to hear everyone say "Good night, John-boy."

Yes, G'nite Alixz!

About the bed scene at the end:
I think a big mistake is the scene at the end where Nicholas is in bed (on July 16 1918) with AF and says he finally has found his purpose in life: to be with his family.  No way.  I'm quite sure that by this point in life he was deeply aware that his life as a Father was running out of time, whether he was separated from them or would be killed.  It may be easier for us to think they all had some reassuring transitions in the Ipatiev house, but....unlikely.  How interesting that modern Russians would present this idea in a movie!
