Okay, let's try this ...

As I say, I can't recall now where I got the photo, it was years ago, but it did claim to be one of the last taken while they were in captivity. Maria doesn't look much like herself, but there's not really anyone else it could be. I'm sure the other sister is Tatiana.

I hope the link works and the photo is not a boring old one that everyone has seen before.

Sarah

That´s Tatiana and Olga, not Maria.

Quite correct, Ally. Also, it wasn't taken in captivity. The picture comes from Viktor Alexandrov's book, which misidentifies many, many photos -- both by date and by name.

It is from 1916, most likely Tsarskoe Selo. I have seen several shots as well.

Grrr! ;D that's what I was gonna say! But yeah, Tatiana and Olga, that's why 'Maria' doesn't look like herself, because it's not Maria at all!

This might be the last. It was taken in 1917, about a year before she died. This is the oldest I could find.

Hope this helps!

I think the last one was taken in Tobolsk. I can't find it now, but there you are able to see the foour sisters with typical hats from the time, and no hair showing thourough it, since it hadn't grown yet. They were very poorly dressed and they seemed very thin and a little sickly. It was a pic from Peter Kurth's collection. Someone has it available?

This one?

Now that I have photobuckt and can post photos, I wanted to post this one here and ask about it. It rarely appears
when people speak of the photos taken during captivity. It seems to me this is OTMA...but as I say it's so rarely shown, that sometimes I wonder. It's a painful photo, that much is sure..and I'm guessing it was taken in Tobolsk . Thanks in advance for any infomation

Sarushka however posted the full -length one. I can't find right now. No, the one AnastasiaNikolaevna posted was taken at Tsarskoe Selo, in AP garden , during a break while painting that thing behind them, or standing down the vegetables, if I recall correctly.

This was taken shortly after the IF's arrival in Tobolsk in August of 1917:

And these was taken in the winter of 1918:

I know of no other Tobolsk photos that show Maria.

They died on July 17th. Another sad day, the 14th of July is also coming up (it is the day that the amazing Billy the Kid (R.I.P. xxxx) died in the early hours of, and the day that the French Revolution started).

Actually, some sources  do say that they were woken  before midnight on the 16th, actually went  to the basement on the 17th. FOTR  by King & Wilson  is  the latest and best book on the subject and they say the17th.
As for Wikipedia,  I use it for a quick search but always verify although an actual printed source. It is handy and useful, but always check further.

I am sorry, but I doubt if those were taken during the winter. Siberian climate is unmerciful, and the snow falls from November up to late March. I understand your point -- we have already been debating about the exact date of taking this photo. Russian sources label that it was taken in April of 1918 by Monsieur Pierre Gilliard (?). I would guess that those were taken shortly upon IF's arrival in Tobolsk. Russian archive label the one photo of Tsar, Alexei, three daughters and little boy - servant to have been taken in September of 1917. All in all, either it was taken during the fall of 1917 or during the early spring of 1918. I don't know in any diary entry mentions taking photo on the Greenhouse, I'll have to check.

Ahh, right. It makes sense that even if they were woken up at 11:30 on July 16th they actually would have died the 17th.....thanks!
