About Marie I read that she was not very well educated, and that she was very proud of not having read a single book (except those about religion), in her entire life...

I read in French Wikipedia that the madness of Ludwig and Otto derived more from Maria's famiily than from Maximilian's one.
Does anyone know if madness previously appeared in Hohenzollern family ?

Queen Marie José of Italy (her mother was a Wittlesbach) mentioned the same thing in her autobiography about Kings Ludwig II and Otto inheriting their insanity from their maternal side rather then the Wittlebachs.
