This interesting lady needs a thread of her own, being a daughter of George I of Great Britain, wife to Friedrich-Wilhem I of Prussia, and mother to Freidrich the Great.

Not a clever lady to have to live with King Frederick William of Prussia. She loved Frederick the Great, but cannot protect him him his rough father.

As is well known, she was young when her mother - and namesake - was imprisoned by George I for adultery. Sophia Dorothea the younger was not allowed see her, but when she was married and beyond her husband's control she corresponded with her. It's also interesting to note that though she eligible to be made Princess Royal, she never was, and her niece Anne received the title during her lifetime.

Well...She did have a rough life, as if it were to be used in todays terms. Sophia Dorathea was physically abused by her husband. Also she was not close to her brother, George II, maybe that's why she was never made Princess Royal. Anyhow the British didn't know too much about her, as she married early and didn't stay there long.

I knew Freidrich-Wilhelm was abusive to his children and everyone else who happened to be in his path, but I read can't remember where was that he never laid  a hand on Sophie-Dorothea.

I read somewhere that he did...although I do not think that he hurt her badly physically, but abuse her he did in action and in words. For example he once dragged Frederick from his mother and shoved her across the room. You can imagine the strength of a soilder...
