some days ago a friend told me that marie has left an amount of money in the hospital of rhodes. I'm a bit confused of when and how this could happen: the island of rhodes was italian territory until 1943 and her second husband was appointed governor general of the dodecanese after WW II  so ... what reason could she have to give money to this hospital while she was still alive or in her will?
the fact is a central street in the city of rhodes was named after her for decades.

Most likely the legacy was made at the time of her first wedding (when she was the most wealthy). Marie wasn't that well off especially after her second husband began to steal from her...

from reading Romanov Diary, edited by her two grandchildren Paul and Nancy, saying, that Maria's second husband was rude, and even rude to royals alike and didnt treat her nicely.

Indeed. That is the reason why I don't think she had much money to give to Rhodes at this late date. I presumed she was given a pension from the King of Greece.

Marie wearing her diamond star ornament on her hair like her mother Queen Olga. Maybe she gave it to her daughter as a present ?

She was the one who supported the claims of Anna Anderson.

I don´t recall Grand Duchess Maria as being one of AA´s supporters.  Her daughter Xenia certainly was.

If you follow the link that Clemence provided, you will find the answer.

In the link, when translated, it says the title is: MEMORIES OF MARY VASILOPAIDOS (1883-1933).
