Ella, where DO you get all that from??? So, did Sophie die in a road accident then?

From spending a lot of time reading and researching.  :) Royalty Between the Wars and Royalty Before the Wars has some photos on the family. They have a photo of Philip & Hilda in there (Between the Wars) from their engagement.

There are several books on Luise of Tuscany, including her own memoirs, as well as her second husband's memoirs -- even Anna's governess wrote a book (which was published in English.)   Luise's escapades were front page news on both sides of the Pond.

As for Sophie, she died from a bloodclot in her lungs - this information was provided to me in a letter from her son Dedo in 1991.

So William Mead Lalor was incorrect about her being hit by a bus or did that accident result in the blood clot?

Dedo said she developed the blood clot after having a bout of flu.

Why surprised.  The Internet is not  the end all and be all for information.   Everything in the world is not available at the touch of a keyboard.   None were really public personalities. They lived largely private lives and were hardly newsmakers.  I have the obits of all the sisters (apart from Sophie as she died during the war) from the main Luxembourg papers ... Elisabeth's obit was one paragraph,

Well, since everything is not available from the computer, it's a good thing we have you and grandduchessella, isn't it?

One should not be too dependant on others.  I do have plans to write  a book on the descendants of Grand Duke Adolphe, so of course, I would be doing myself a disservice by providing too much information.

Don't worry Marlene - my mother always told me not to depend on authors to give me informations about royalty . . . but silly me I thought this message board was all about sharing information!

well, your mother was right ... It's not the sharing that bothers me ... it's the burden or the expectations that some have on others ...

If you wish, I will stop expecting anything from you . . .

I don't think anyone here means to be a burden on you Marlene. Simply some of us aren't able to get certain information that other here have. I agree that this is the goal of the message board: freely giving out any information we like. It is entirely up to you what you give us and what you don't, but when you do give us infortmation try not to attack those more amateur members on here such as myself and Prince_Lieven: we're not amateurs because we like being amateurs as you'll be kind enough to appreciate. If you're not happy giving us information I doubt you're comfortable wriiting a single post here. Now, no one's forcing you to do anything but I'd much rather read your (often interesting) posts without the steaming hot guilt you seem to lure over some of us. I'd venture to ask a bit of understanding faith in us, and we'll try to be more professional in our searches. After all, some of us aren't trying to write a paperback, are we?

I don't have an edge of hot guilt -- whatever that means.  Everyone can do what I do.  It might mean hours and hours in libraries, making copies off microfilm or browsing through publications each week in a store that sells foreign magazines and newspapers, or now setting up searches in news search engines for royal stories.  You are able to get the information.  You might not know how to get the information, but you are able to do so.  It may require hard work, or giving up a Saturday afternoon, and spending it in a library.  But you are able to do it.   My collection has been used by other researchers ...

No one thinks your work doens't have its merit, which it does, but you must agree this is a page to share info to help each other (not just you helping us, but all helping each other). I think everyone welse will agree. My opinion is we all share as much as we want out of our own good will, we cannot force each other to do so, but I fear you may have the wrong insight on this type of page if that's the case, after all, the "authors" on here are much less common than us amateurs, nd no one is keen on a fight, but plain sharing of royalty, that's all. I just hope you understand what I mean, I'm not trying to impose any sort of law on anyone.
