Can someone post all the Romanovs or nobles who are in those tombs?
Dear Mandie,
This is a very, very good question.
There are actually two questions here, please...and let me bring you up-to-date.
First there is the question of WHO was actually buried in those tombs at the time they were buried. There is a general list of those who are there, and I would ask Hikaru to obtain it for us. It is either in the Synodalii Arxhivii at the Russian Museum, or at the Archives of the Petersburskaya Eparxhii. Hikaru, prochu vac.
Second, Mandy, although it is not well-known, many of the tombs were actually opened and some were desecrated at the time of the 1917 Revolution. The tombs were restored later but I have some concerns as to whom was actually replaced where. It is a ghoulish tale and not one for someone with a weak stomach, such as mine. It is one of the darker pages of an already dark Soviet history. Again, Hikaru being on the spot could supply us with much more information here. Remember -- the Revolution spared nothing, not even the dead.
Hikaru, can you please tell us when the desecration of the tombs happened, when restoral began and whom was responsable for the restoration work (including reburial of the bodies).
I am personally actually concerned that some of the tombs are ... empty.
