Great article! Is sounds like poor Mrs Sfiris was not even looking to get back her entire rightful inheritance from the Russians, just for free room and board when she comes to visit St Petersburg, so that she wouldn't have to stay at hotels... Hence her very personal written appeal to the Russian president... But alas, mean old Vlad Putin wouldn't even grant her that!  >:( ;).

I was rather suprised that she was even allowed to stay in the Yussupov palace. I doubt any Romanov or nobility descendant will ever be able to get any of what once belonged to their family.

According to this article, they have no intention of letting her stay at any of the Yussupov palaces... So it's still hotels for poor Mrs Sfiris.

Really? I could have sworn I had read somewhere that she was allowed to stay in the Moika palace when she visted. Must have heard it wrong.

And probably just to please Mrs Sfiris her portrait was strung in the Moika palace, one can see it in the former bedroom of her great-grandfather 8).

Putin did the right thing. Imagine if everyone today made a similar claim because a few generations back their family owned property in Petrograd in 1917.

What a ludicrous idea! Poor Mrs Sfiris will have to learn to rough it at the Astoria or at the Kempinskii.

I was looking at this portrait along with a picture of Tatiana, Xenia Sfiris daughter, and I have to say the two do resemble each other a little.

I think they could have done a better job, but then again maybe they just wanted to throw something on the wall that gave some added history to the Yussupovs.

I agree with you. The painting is terrible, and as much as I hate to admit the "little doggy" appears not at its best.

A very amateurish item which fails to enhance the beauty of the palace interiors. I am glad I failed to notice it during my visit.
