I agree with you. The painting is terrible, and as much as I hate to admit the "little doggy" appears not at its best.

;D ;D You took the words right out of my mouth Margarita!! :D :-*

When I was in St. Petersburg, in 2002, my guide told me that Putin allowed her and her family to celebrate Christmas at the palace.

I was looking at this portrait along with a picture of Tatiana, Xenia Sfiris daughter, and I have to say the two do resemble each other a little.

You have a picture of her? Please post it, I've never seen one!

If she looks like her mother, it's a shame, IMO, not that there's anything wrong with their looks, but that Mrs. Sfiris looks so much like Bebe's husband and nothing like Felix or Irina. Bebe was a lovely mixture of both, but her only child took strongly after the husband. It's sad to think that even though the bloodline continues, the Yussoupov 'look' may have died out. Maybe it will show up in one of the new babies.

Taska was kind enough to end me the picture. I think she looks like her mother a little bit,  but at the same time I see some of her great grandparents in her.

Really? I could have sworn I had read somewhere that she was allowed to stay in the Moika palace when she visted. Must have heard it wrong.

Maybe they changed their minds later on, but not according to this article... Here they said that Mr Putin refused to let her stay at any of the Yusupov places... To be honest, I would find it hard to imagine if they did let her stay there, since it is now a museum...

Putin did the right thing. Imagine if everyone today made a similar claim because a few generations back their family owned property in Petrograd in 1917.

What a ludicrous idea! Poor Mrs Sfiris will have to learn to rough it at the Astoria or at the Kempinskii.

What a rotten thing to say!!! Mrs. Sfiris's family was robbed of their entire fortune by a band of murderers. The least they could do is offered so kind of compensation and staying in a palace which was stolen from them in the first place is not ludicrous at all.

Corruption is  rampant in Russia and only money counts. Tradition, history and some old values could count less for the current government whose leadership is not less than old communists and KGB members dressed as new capitalists. Poor Russia!!

Luckily, we live in a country where life and private property is respected. But, coming from a family who suffered abusive expropiation in the past I feel other posters should be more sensitive to the plight of people whose family life was ruined by revolution and believe me the effects continue in the next generations.

Even though I think it would be great if the Yussoupovs could get their stuff back, I understand why Russia can't do it. You just can't start that. Like Margarita said, what if every single person who claimed to have family property in St. Petersburg before the revolution came wanting it back, what a mess it would be for those living there now. A lot of people have lost a lot all over the world all through time, but think what problems it would cause for those alive today if every person demanded back what their families lost years ago, or wanted large amounts of money to compensate for their suffering. There's nothing we can do for them now, the ones alive today aren't the ones who suffered, and those in charge today are not the ones who did it to them. I mean, suppose all the Native Americans reclaimed everything the US had taken from their ancestors. There's something in every country around the world you could apply this situation to in some way. Though it may sound nice, it's just not workable.

Not a rotten thing to suggest in the least pentetorri, just facing reality.

My family in St. Petersburg was among those who lost everything except their dignity and the will to survive after the revolution impacted their lives to the point that they became stateless in the country of their birth.

Personally I have absolutely no interest in ever considering that the Russian State should ever offer me one ruble in compensation on behalf of my grandparents. Their losses were immeasurable.

In fact I sincerely wish those who now reside in those properties the very best.

Who did Tatiana Sfiris marry?

Irina>Bebe>Xenia>Tatiana Sfiris   Is this the correct lineage?

I'm not sure but descendants of Felix and Irina still take an interest in the Yussopov Palace on the Moika. The Palace from what I could make out is controlled by the Union of Teachers. I must say I was a touch disappointed by the palace. The little court theatre is delightful. Most of the treasures are elsewhere and many of the remaining paintings are copies.

TampaBay

She was previously married to Alexis Giannakoupoulos and they had no children together. Her second husband Anthony Vamvakidis is the father of Marilia and Yasmine.

Irina Felixovna was really an amazing woman according to her daughter Xenia's words. Xenia Sfiris told in an interview (I had found it somewhere on Internet) that her father was a rare guest at home as he worked hard and visited his wife and daughter only TWICE a year...So actually Xenia did not know him as she wanted. Then her father felt ill with    tuberculosis and was sent to a sanatorium, and his faithful wife Irina wrote letters to him every day...

What an odd marriage! Can you imagined being visited only twice a year by your spouse!!

Yes, Irina Felixovna seem's to me, at least, to be a person of intrest. Not only is she daughter of Irina and Felix, but she's also the granddaughter of Xenia and Zenaida. You have to wonder what kind of stories she would have heard growing up from both sides of the family. No doubt all this was pass to her daughter Xenia, I wish there were more pictures of Bebe out there.

Tatiana

Sorry the pictures arn't of better quality. You can see how she seems to resemble Irina and Felix more than her mother Xenia who took after her father versus her mother Bebe.
