A paraphrasing remark on "Lucien's" Post # 62:     Fair enough; so be it!  In the darkest hours of the night in the crypt of St. Denis, the Assembly of Bones can now rejoice:  "Alas! Poor Yorick! I knew him well ..........."     Regards,   AP.

More on the King's head...

Two portraits of Maria as a child:

(...)

Some portraits showed Maria as a young lady uncommonly pretty:

(...)

The first is not this Maria, but Maria, daughter of Cosimo I. Painted by Bronzino. She died at 17 (1540-1557)...

The second is not Maria, but the poor Dianora de Toledo, wife of Pietro de' Medici, who strangled her by jealousy, when she was 23 (1553-1576)... Painted by Allori.

Hello, I would like to start a new topic about Marguerite de Valois because i think it's no topic about her in french royals and she deserves a place. Doesn't she?

First of all, just a doubt:

It's said that "Margot" was a name wich took his origin in the XIX century, invented by Dumas. But:

1) It's said too that Marguerite and all her brothers and sisters had nicknames when children, as Sandrine, Margot etc. What are the sources of these stories?

2) The story of "the king Margot", the young lover of Marguerite once in Paris after her return from Usson. If it's true, there must have been a queen Margot behind this story.

3) In a XVI book describing the forteresses it's said that Usson in Auvergne had four towers, and every one is called by her name: one of them "Tour Margot". It's a contemporary document, because few later Usson castle was rased. So?

Another one:

Someone knows about the 6 chapels of the famous "Rotonde des Valois"?

It seems that Marguerite was buried there after been exposed in "les Augustins". So did Charles and Henri. But if Catherine had built this mausoleum just after the death of Henri II, why six chapels? Where were the two childs died shortly. Where the first?
The elder sisters were queen and duchess of foreign territories,so might rest there. But, what about Marguerite?

Three childs dead, then Charles, Hercule, Henri. That's 6. No place. Were "les jumeaux" buried in the same chapel? Any idea of the original plan or the chronology and occupants of this mausoleum?
