I've also read in a book about the Albertina that the accident happened there in a small room of here apartment and that she was wearing a evening-dress for a theater-presentation.
I read a similar info, there mentioned that the Archduchess finished to getting dressed with one of her best dresses (it was said that her ladies covered it with some solution made with some substance made with glycerine, so it could made the dress more flammable) she went to smoke while her family finished to prepare (also mentioned that wasn't difficult for her to get cigarettes because her ladies got them for her), short after she started smoking her father come to her room and she for not being scolded by him hid the ciggarete into her dress (near to her waist) and pretended nothing had happened before her father but suddenly she noticed that her dress caught fire and she started running in all the room really scared (making that fire increase) and her ladies and servants finally got to throw her to the floor and put out the fire with a blanket. Her pain was really intense having burns of second and third degree in the majority of her body, and it was also said that was nearly impossible to calm the shouts of pain of the poor Mathilde. A doctor suggested to put her on oil to make her feel refreshed and calm her pain. She didn't survive.

I wonder if really it happened in this exact way or no but she had a very sad way to die and being really young. And some posters mentioned before that accidents with those long skirts were really common in the past, I think it was true, I read time ago on a site some of the problems related with crinoline dresses (mainly the ones with those wide loops) was that many ladies who used them had accidents while their dresses caught fire.

The last one is Mathilde.

Yes, it is Mathilde. There are different versions of this photo.
Ich aber breite trauernd aus
die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

i have a huge doubt about that last picture of "Mathilde"

Well...i know both sister looked alike a lot, but, well...Im still not 100% convinced that image is Mathilde. Why?

Cause the girl of the first image looks like twin of this one, Maria Theresa with her fiance, Phillip von Wurttemberg

Now, this one from the same photoshoot of the `picture posted above for KAiserin A

A beautiful image of Maria Theresa in early 1870s (3 years after Mathilde`s death)

Maria Theresa as an old woman

Could it be this one Mathilde?

Well...if it really is Maria Theresa, not Mathilde, it wouldnt be the first time that thr ONB mislabel images. Remember that one of a common lady with two toddlers tagged "Maria Annunziata with Otto Franz and franz Ferdinand".

I don't know, it's obvious for me somehow, that the picture posted by Kaizerin AS is Mathilde. I can see the difference quite clearly between the sisters...

Comparison of the picture with another portrait of Mathilde (her mouth is so "specific"):

Maria Theresia- she had a fuller face and smaller eyes than Mathilde

I can't express clearly, but Mathilde has a kind of melancholic expression on her face, Maria Theresia seems more relaxed to me- but this isn't a professional explanation:))

Are you sure that the girl on the right in the first picture is Maria Theresa?. As far as i know none of the sisters had "dark" skin and eyes. Maybe she s a friend or another relative?

There is an inscription under the photo: "J.J.K.K.K.K.M.M. Erzherzogin Mathilde u. Therese," but it could be bad...
