Yes...Imgaine Elisabeth II of England...many years before this one.

It was a pity that Infanta Isabel Clara Eugenia never had a child.

Well, queen as either Elizabeth II or as just Queen Isabella. I'm glad she didn't become queen, but she would have made a good one, since she strikes me as a pious, intelligent, kindly sort of woman . . . yes, a pity she had no children. Perhaps something to do with her marrying so late in life?

Yes I agree she would have made a better Queen than her Aunt Mary Tudor, who lost the case for Catholism in England by burning heretics. I am reading a good out of print biography on her called "The Great Infanta". She was quite a compassionate woman...especially at the time of the religious wars.

Also agreed on marrying too late and a husband who once lived in a monestary...

That was a lucky buy! If it was published in 1910 it must be hard to find!

Well...I got a lot of books from the out-of-print section on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. There are jewels to be had if one tries hard enough.

Would like to know more about the Spanish royals, so is about to start lessons in Spanish...

Is English your first language, Eric?

Thanks for answering, Eric.  :) English and Chinese, what an odd combination for first languages!

Well it is a combination of my heritages...Spanish as well.

One of my favourite books is Martin Hume's "Queens of Old Spain".

Dear Eric,

Try to read "Queens of Spain" of Fernandez Doria. It´s the best book in spanish of the spanish queens. From Isabel de Portugal to Queen Sofía.

Quote
Catalina married Carlo Emanuele of Savoy in 1585 and she became the mother of 10 children in 12 years of marriage. She died aged 30 after giving birth to a daughter who didn't survive her very long.

Yes, isabel and Albrecht were Regents of the Netherlands and, had there been a baby from their marriage, that baby would have inherited the Netherlands  in its own right! Sadly, Isabel always had problems with her menstruation and she never become pregnant.

Umigon, but didn't Isabel and Albrecht have three children that died young?
