But it was shown in the papers...maybe just a book on Konstantin right ? I heard he was very active in literary circles too.

It was mentioned in the papers and the high society knew about the whole thing, but there was no any public stagement at some of the Imperial Theatres for all comers. The plot of the play was delicate and some actors was too much of a high birth to let them out to the wide audience.

Too bad. Konstantin might have been a good playright and actor. Yet fate put him as a grand duke...Was this play published ?

I don't see any BAD in private performance of the play. The times were different than now. And by the way, the observers who saw the play with KR, said that his acting was good but not that brilliant as someone might imagine. He was somewhat mannered and had a slight English accent.

The play was published.

It was written by Konstantin himself. Too bad his work wasn't translated into English.

That play certainly was - back as long ago as 1914.

There is a very limited edition photo album of the 1900 performance of Hamlet in which KR also acted in the Hermitage THeatre - I don't know how many copies were produced, but I guess they were friends and family, plus some honoured institutions were given copies for the record.

Thanks for the link. Konstantin was a talented person and had he survived the revloution could have done more work in exile perhaps in paris.

They are from one of the numerous bios in Russian on GD KR.
