In a lot of pictures i have seen K.R. and Sergei seem to always be together.  were they close?  i have always heard that Sergei and Paul were close but hat can be expected from brothers but I have seldom heard about K.R. and Sergei being very close.

i have read that K.R and an other GD were the only ones who attended the funeral of Sergei and even helped out Ella with the funeral arrangements but that is it.  was Alix not there for her sister?   A lot of people in the Romanov circle seemed to put down or talk bad about Sergei especially Sandro other memenbers as well.  K.R is the only one who remained silent.  maybe because he and Sergei were very close?  then why isin't it mentioned?  what did Nicholas say about his uncle/brother-in-law?  what did Alix have to say about him as well?

As soon as she heard of Serge's assassination Alix wanted to go to Moscow but was FIRMLY advised not to do so. She retired to her rooms & cancelled dinner engagements.
K.R. was also advised not to go but he went at once anyway. He seems very close to Ella, & very concerned for her welfare after Serge's death. He stayed until the other relatives (Marie of Edinburgh & daughters, Victoria Battenberg & Pavel) arrived. Pavel pleaded to be permitted to return to the country to attend the funeral.
Vladimir & Alexei dithered about...Vladimir believed that he was held responsible (in some quarters) for the Bloody Sunday massacre and so probably wanted to stay out of the way.

Could anyone tell me about Princess Catherine (Ekaterina) Ivanovna Romanova, daughter of Ivan Konstantinovich and Helena Petrovna of Serbia, only daughter and second child of the marriage. I understand she married an Italian nobler in 1937 and is still alive. Could she be the last Grand Duchess born in Royal Russia? I take it she was born in Pavlosk in 1915 so that might make her the last Grand Duchess born there, right? Any idea what she did during her lifetime, where she lives and if she attended the Royal Family's burial in 1998 for example?

She is not Grand Duchess but Princess of the Blood Imperial. Last member of the Imperial House born in Russia. Renounced her succession rights before morganatic marriage. Lives in Montevideo, Urugway. Not attended re-burial.

She didn't remarry! Her son Giovanni married Marie Claudia Telier-Debers(or something like that) and they have a son Alessandro who is also born in Paris, her second daughter Fiameta stayed unmarried and her first daughter Nicoleta married Albert Grundland and has a son bt him Eduardo Alberto and daughter Alexandra Gabriella!

That's a great photo of some of the Romanov men look relaxed and at-ease with each other. That's Serge M 2nd from right, correct? Is Dmitri K one of the other men? KR seems to have been able to steer clear of some of the petty fighting that went on and be generally popular throughout the family. Perhaps because he had such a good nature and maybe because, with his own 'sins', he didn't feel it his place to pass judgment on others? (Though he did have great insights into the various personalities in his diaries which I wish would be published in full book form in English!  :) )

I think the man standing between KR and Nicholas is Peter Of Oldenburg?  Olga Alexandrovna's husband.

From this picture one can see how much shorter Nicholas was compared to the other men in the family

Any pics of KR and Sandro together?  I would love to see that one.   :)

How about one of KR and his wife?  I have only seen one picture of them.

Thank you.

I think that for the people who wants to understand the
K.R. the better thing is to read his letters.
There is very big book printed in SPB in 1999 included the letters from K.R. and to K.R.  of the following famous people: Pyotr Chaykovsky, I. Goncharov, A. Maykov, A. Fet, N.Strakhov, Ya. Polonsky, L. Maykov (unfortunately in Russian).

The apartment of K.R. in Marble Palace is also could saved without any changes.
