BeNeLux Royal Palaces
« on: August 17, 2005, 06:14:09 AM »
Like the one started on the French board, here's a thread for pics of palaces from the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

I'll start us off:

The Royal Palace in Brussels.

Is this Laeken, or another one?

Not Laeken, I think, just the 'Palais royale' in Brussels - the King's official residence.

Noordeinde - that would be the 'Northend' Palace, then?

Here's one of Het Loo Palace, where Queen Wilhelmina lived:

Yes! Do you speak Dutch?

As you'll probably know 'Het Loo' is a museum now

No, sadly I do not speak Dutch, but 'Noordeinde' to Northend seemed pretty obvious . . . Actually I did not know Het Loo is a museum? Is it still full of Queen Wilhelmina's things?

Oops yea, you could have guessed, but I didn't think of that (blonde...   ::)
I believe there are a still lot of Wilhelmina-things over there, but also things of other Dutch royals.

LOL Tatia, but your insightful and clever posts have proved that you are no stereotypical 'dumb blond'!

Hmm . . . I should like to visit Het Loo. I admire Queen Wilhelmina greatly, and the other things would be interesting too, of course . . .

Thank you for the link, anna!!! What a beautiful palace Het Loo is . . . does anyone know why it is named thus?

I believe the area where it was built (near Apeldoorn), is called 'het Loo', so that's where it got its name from.

Laeken is in a park and is smaller than this impressive Royal Palace.

I think this is the palace of Laken (that's how it's spelled in Dutch/Flemmish, I think it's the same place you meant with Laeken)

Thanks for posting that, Tatia. Here's a pic, though it's not very good:
