Thijs,the picture on top is what is called the Throne room,and you've posted a picture as how it was at the end of the 19th century.Today this room is used as the venue where the RF and their guests(State Visits) have the photo-session before the Banquets.It has been named the Throne -room since the days of Louis-Napoleon and Hortense,200 years ago this year.The Royal Palace at the Dam Square to this day has the largest collection of Empire furniture outside France,thanks to Louis.His Queen,Hortense,loathed this Palace,as she loathed Holland as it was generally called,to her it was damp and smelly,as the canals were still open at that time surrounding the Palace.The dutch thought the only thing "smelly" was her,she only stayed a few months,then left,no love lost between the dutch and her,nor between Louis and her,forced marriage,never worked,Louis-Napoleon did become a loved and respected Monarch.To the dutch,his brother thought otherwise...........

Thanks Lucien, I have seen that room on pictures. It is indeed a magnificent collection of empire furniture in the Amsterdam palace. It is however not very known unfortunately.

The Binnenhof at The Hague was for centuries the centre of government in the Netherlands. The Estates General are and were seated at The Binnenhof. It was originally a palace of the counts of Holland. It is not generally known that most of the complex building was in use as the housing for the stadtholders and their families. That was the case up till the foundation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. That is why there are different magnificent rooms can be seen at the Binnenhof.




The magnificent "Trèves Salon" at the Binnehof, built by King stadtholder William lll and his wife Mary Stuart ll. It is nowadays used as meeting room for the Dutch government,

Lucien,what a great link. The Mauritshuis is beautifull to see. The museum was founded by King William l in the first years of his reign.He donated about 200 Orange family owned paintings as a foundation of  the museum.
Among them very famous painters like Holbein, Rembrandt etc. The paintings were previously owned by his father stadtholder William V.

Palace Het Loo painted in 1838 by Schelfhout. The palace was changed by King Louis Napoleon, the first King of Holland that is appointed by his brother Napoleon Bonaparte). King Louis Napoleon had the palace white plastered and  in stead of the 17th century formal gardens he created an English landscape garden (the changes of King Louis Napoleon were undone during the last renovation/restoration). The painting was a gidt from King William l to the Mary duchess of Gloucester, daughter of King Georg lll. She was the bride to be for the brother of King William l, prince Frederick, but he died at the battlefield in action before they could marry.

This is a very rare interior picture of palace Kneuterdijk, the palace where King William ll and Anna Paulowna lived when they were still the crownprincely couple.
The picture is from 1895, the palace was still a royal residence at that time. Now it is part of a complex for the State Council of the Netherlands. The picture shows a salon with the collection of portrait miniatures. The collection was extended by donations from queen Sophie who also collected miniatures, just like her youngest son prince Alexander. It is the world second large collection of portrait miniatures.

The "Moses room" in the Amsterdam royal palace. It is called the Moses room after the huge painting at the left wall representing Moses choses the elderly. And indeed again empire furniture, the greatest collection outside France.

The Mozes Hall was the venue for the signing of the Act of Abdication by HM Queen Juliana on April 30th 1980.

The Hall used to be known as the Vroedschapzaal,the painting over the fire-place depicts "Solomo praying for wisdom" by Govert Flinck.
