I should have picked the right person...but only for I've already seen pics of Irina when an elderly lady. Really, but really her mother seems younger than her...Amazing!

Yes she really looked most unusual when she got older. She looked nothing like her mother or maternal grandmother. She just looked like an old sparrow.

Her features somewhat resembeld her paternal grandmother GDss Olga Fedorovna.

Married to the Fab Felix must have been a trial, but to mention Babs (their daughter) ?  ???

And what you wanted to say with this sentence? Who is Babs? Bebe - Irina Felixovna?

I agree and startlingly like her aunt GD Anastasia of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. She had many of her father's family's features.
But the combination of genes in Irina as she aged was much different than her Aunt and Grandmother and really did make for an unusual effect.

Does anyone think any of Xenia and Sandro's sons resemble Xenia's mother's side or Nicky?

Since Nicky and Xenia had the same mother, I am not sure what you are asking.

Andrei Andreivich, who presently lives in California and is Xenia and Sandro's grandson, to me resembles his grandfather Sandro. Since we are both descended from the Grand Dukes of Baden, there is obviously some resemblance there, as well. (Sandro's mother was a Princess of Baden, my grandmother was an other side of the blanket descendant of the GD of Baden). I don't think he looks a great deal like Tsar Nicholas.

Not a royal, of royal descent - and illegitimate at that! Many people have royal ancestors. To be royal, you have to have a royal father or sovereign mother. I am very proud of my parents, but they aren't royal!

I think the costumes worn by Xzenia and Alexander to the 1903 costume ball were especially made for the occasion, and were not actually from the 17th century. Is there a thread on that costume ball, and perhaps more about those costumes, and also pictures of how everybody at the ball was dressed, just in one thread? I know there is much info on some different threads.

Forgive my ignorance, but does the costume of GD Xenia w/headdress exist today?  Is it on display?  perhaps in the Kremlin?

actually, the dress does still exist (in the costume collection of the Hermitage museum in St.Petersburg), minus the jewels, of course.   as far as i know, the headress no longer exists.   since it was made of some type of cardboard, it probably wouldn't have been retained, once the jewels had been removed from it.

During this costume ball, did those who attended wear replicas or was their surviving regalia from the period?  It doesn't seem feasible but I was wondering......  It would seem the originals could not have survived the ravages of time.
Also, were the jewels pilfered or are they part of the State's collection now?

i guess some (such as Nikolai II & Aleksandra) had access to, & chose to wear, antique pieces from the appropriate period.   but, i think, generally, they used their own contemporary pieces.

some had stones (from, let's say, their CartiĆ©r pieces) reset into replicas of antique pieces with the appropriate look.    others, like Ksenia for example, just wore their jewelry as-is....

Sorry, I should have phrased it differently.  I guess I meant that does anyone think that any of Xenia sons resemble the Danish side more so than the Romanov side of the family.  Xenia and Nicky  favor each other a great deal.  So, I definitely should have said it in a more concise manner.  Queen Louise of Hesse-Cassel and her husband or AIII and his clan.  Nicky and Xenia look like the Dowager Empress so much, but in Charlotte Zeepvat's Camera and the Tsars there is a photo of AIII as a young boy and there are many traits that were passed down to his heir (unfortunately not his height).  But as they grew older, both siblings favored their mother, IMO. Any thoughts?
