I hope nobody will be too angry with me digging out this old thread as I think it is really interesting.
I have a question: Where did you read the whipping-story, Marie? I have never heared about if before.

Puh, have you ever seen my "library"?  ::) I really can't remember in which book I have read about that violent trait of Karl Ludwig. Nora Fuger?  ???

Thanks anyway. I only thought it interesting. And nope, I haven´t seen your library through it´s most certainly worth a look.

I could have a look at some books that might contain this information. But it could be a problem to find the right one.  ;)

Really, it´s not that important. Please don´t trouble yourself because of my interest in gossip.

Be careful, if you think to give the nicknames Ciolla, Tetella, Petite ... to your daughters : these words have a double signification.

I know Italian quite well, but I haven't lived longer there, I don't know and didn't find the meaning of the names, even when knowing the language. So, can you tell us, what it means?
I don't have very much practical experience in speaking language, maybe it's a slang or something, I don't know :-\

I really don't know about those words, and thought they are simply short forms of the names. But it would be interesting to know, if there's more behind it. I'll look up again, bt until now I didn't find any meaning of it. I know the language from my lessons, but I 'm no native speaker ???

my dears, this time, I am not kidding nor joking.

I think the nicknames Nicchia, Ciolla, Tetella and Petite are words with 2 (ore more) meanings. Ones could be heavily sexual . But I have to verify carefully. That's popular language, low speaking. Those things are generally not on the web, and sometimes neither into books. I have to ask a friend living near Napoli for the actual meanings and a specialist of popular languages for their senses at the times of Ferdinando 2 .

Best regards from your devoted

As I supposed this is not standard written Italian, but spoken "language" of special circles of people, so I could not have known it. But i wonder, why that name Ciolla was given to her even when there`s a sexual connected meaning or something. I only wonder that this happened among aristocratic circles. Or didn't they know about such double meanings?

Does anybody know where did she live

a) while married to Karl-Ludwig ? Did the couple own any palace in Vienna ?
b) after the fall of the Empire ?

Maria Terasa was indeed a wonderful person, a good Catholic.

She was with FF's children at their parents' funeral.

She also visited Ferdinand when he was dying of a shameful disease (long after  he was expelled from the imperial family because of his morganantic marriage).

I think she also played a hand in Karl I and Zita's marriage (her being Zita's maternal aunt).
I'd also like to know about her life after the empire.

Do you mean middle son of Karl Ludwig, Ferdinand Karl?
