She always seemed cold and hard to me. Plus there's just something off-putting to me about wearing the jewelry items that were the late Queen Astrid's wedding gifts. I think that it would've been less cold-seeming if she'd done what Queen Louise of Sweden did--not wear such personal items but hold them for the daughter or daughters-in-law of her predecessor. It just seems rather classless. Plus, didn't she later sell some of them?

I have found a paragraph in Wikipedia that takes my breath away...

I copy/paste:

"There was some concern among politicians close to the King (Baudouin) that he might actually be in love with his stepmother, Princess Lilian, suspicions fueled by secret recordings of surprisingly intimate-sounding telephone conversations between the two. The post-wedding actions of the king's father and stepmother only increased speculation; they briskly moved out of the royal palace at Laeken and reportedly broke off relations with Baudouin for some time."

I really can´t believe that Baudouin was involved in a love story with his stepmother at the time he married our Fabiola...

Cold, hard and a scheming "gold digger".The King,a "prisoner" at Laeken at the start of the war, came under the spell of this daughter of the governor of east-flanders,and she was "with child" ,as the ancient phrase goes,in no time. They then were secredly married at Laeken, and that certainly was a blow to the Belgians in war time, while still in mourning for their beloved Astrid as well. That Leopold wasn't accepted by the Belgians as their King after the war,was a blow to her,she had hopes of becoming Queen hidding a brick wall. But there was Baudouin,as he lived at Laeken as well,Lilian, and his father, tryed to influence him,to put it mildly,in the early years of his Reign.About the time of the wedding of Baudouin and Fabiola, there was a crisis, and not merely because of Fabiola's dislike of this scheming lady.Upon return from their honeymoon, they found Laeken "empty",Leopold and Lilian had moved out to Argenteuil Castle, and so did most of the furniture and art, virtually all there was was gone.It took quite some time to get some, not all, belongings back. Then Lilian set hopes on her children,Prince Alexander and Princesses Marie-Christine and Marie-Esmeralda,keeping them "short",strict and loveless backfired.Instead of marrying into the Royal Houses of Europe, preferebly reigning houses at that, they ran out of the house as soon as they saw their chance, each having a crisis/issues with their parents.Alexander was sort of a rebel at first and a car salesman later,Marie-Christine took off to Canada and got married with a piano player,a disaster, but she never returned to Belgium while both her parents were still alive,Marie Esmeralda always seemed closest to her father but all the childrens choices in life were a blow to Baels. The children were all "in need of a shrimp" we'd say now,Baels was cruel, and certainly Marie Christine never got her act together again, fearing her mother would lock her up again,as she had done while a child and a teen.

last Sunday 9 November. The princess signed together with the popular Flemish singer Helmut Lotti her children's book "Les amis Valdi & Rush / Valdi & Rush en hun vriendjes" (translated as "Valdi & Rush and their friends", seven fairy-tales about animals with at the end of each story a moral.
In one of the stories 'Landsrode', where Prince Alexander & Princess Léa live, is mentioned as place where the rabbits live.

The book has a cd-rom with the stories, told in Flemish by Helmut Lotti and in French by Stéphane Bern. Princess Léa only tells the first story in German.

Nice stories and beautiful drawings.

The book is for a good cause: "Fund of Prince and Princess Alexander of Belgium".

At the left of Princess Léa is sitting singer Helmut Lotti and at her right Kathy Pauwels from the broadcasting programme 'Royalty' on commercial Flemish broadcasting channel VTM.

Princess Léa was accompanied by members of the Veterans of King Leopold III.

On one picture you can see Marc van der Linden from the Netherlands. He and his crew interviewed the princess in the mean time.

Hello,

I would like to know more about Princess Lea and her husband Prince Alexandre of Belgium who is the step-brother of King Albert II and his late siblings King Bauduin  and Grandduchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxemburg.

In german or english magazines they were hardly mentioned. I had seen pictures of them in former editions of "Point de Vue" and a magazine from Belgium. There also had been articles about them but there's little left of my French, so I hardly know something about them.

Do they have any offical functions?
What about their relationship with the Royal families of Belgium and Luxemburg'?
What about their relationshíp wtih the sisters of Prince Alexandre? Do they have any contact with Marie-Christine and Marie-Esmeralda?

Thanks on advance.

Regards, Gabriella.

Prince Alexander of Belgium is the halfbrother of King Albert, not his stepbrother, as they share the same father King Leopold III.
Prince Alexander and his two sisters are hardly very well known in Belgium, but since two decades a little bit more in the limelight than in the 1970's or the 1980's.
They don't have official functions in Belgium, but Prince Alexander and more special Princess Léa carry out some 'private' engagements. They set up the foundation 'Prince Alexander & Princess Léa' well-fare fund.
His sister Princess Esmeralda lives in London, but travels often to Belgium to see her family to which she remains attached.
Princess Marie-Christine lives in the USA and has broken all contact with her family since her first very quick marriage. She gave a few interviews in which she said that she had a very bad relationship with her mother Princess Lilian and didn't want to see her ever again, which happened. She didn't attend the funerals of her father King Leopold III in 1983 nor the one of her mother Princess Lilian in 2002. She is also estranged with the rest of her family. Princess Léa is the one who tries to get normal contacts again.

Liliane seemed a very fasinating woman. It was her marriage to the widower king that pull down his popularity. She was also a stylish lady like Wallis Simpson, but her fame was that of the wicked stepmother. Once her eldest stepson got married, she showed her true colours. I don't think Fabiola was ever fond of her...

I never found her particularly fascinating, always saw her as the golddigger from hell. She played her part well, like a professional demi-monde
more then anything else. She never had my sympathy as you can gather I'm afraid Eric, awfull woman,a busy body, intruder and wicked to the core.
She swarmed in the company of dear Baudouin as if she was the Queen she never was. Then Fabiola came up and that was all over.
Dona Fabiola never tolerated her interfering at any point in any way.

I suppose you will be at Laeken tomorrow Eric?

If only I can get away...

I agree most people I talked to in Belgium do not like her. She was as bad as Magda to Carol II.
