Browse around these threads, King James, particularly the Queen Juliana's Grandchildren one, and you will find some info and opinions, especially from Lucien and Tatia, who are both Dutch themselves!

P.S: And don't worry, you're English is wonderful!  :)

Hi King James!
I think it's kind of 50/50 here, there are people who like them, and others who don't.
As for myself, I really like our monarchy, even though they aren't the prettiest people ;) :P. But they seem very friendly to me, and I hope they will reign on for a long time, because I just don't think a president would 'fit' in our country.

LOL - you are right that they are not the prettiest people in the world!  ;)

But perhaps Princesses Catharina-Amalia and Alexia will grow up to be beauties!  ;)

Hey! You can't say that about my monarchy! (It's ok if I say it)
Just kidding :P

Could be, if they look more like their mother, than their father. I don't really care, as long they'll grow up to be nice persons, and a good Queen (Amalia), and don't get the same haircut as their grandmother ;).

LOL - I humbly beg your forgiveness, Tatia!  ;) But, you see, I have no monarchy of my own!  :(

Is Queen Beatrix's hair that bad? Could you post a pic?

Dear Tatia,I beg to differ. The overall support of our Monarchie is close to 90%.
The approval/respect for our/any Monarchie does not depend on whether they're pretty or not.
Beauty,as they say,is in the eyes of the beholder.

I wouldn't use the term popular,as popularity is a very very shallow term,it's here one day, gone the next, but respect has to be earned.Regards,Lucien.

LOL - yes, or maybe King Lieven of Ireland! You were right about the Queen's hair!  :P

She's famous for her hair, she has it like this for years (I believe since she was 18 or 20 or so).

And P_L, if you're ever visiting her, let me know, I'll come and wave with a little Irish flag (maybe Lucien can come too, or other Dutch posters).

Is that an official number? If so, I didn't know that  :(
And you are right that a monarchy depends on the looks of the monarch.
But did you also read that I said they look very friendly to me?

Yes,that is the official "rating" ,if you like.Never mind you didn't know, ask and learn&enjoy.
But the looks of the Monarch?I'm sure you mean the respect earned/visible appearences at official and informal functions, not to mention the loads of work done outside public view, then yes, sure, respect depends on how the Monarch performs Her duties.

Looking very friendly?Yes Tatia,They are friendly in general and have a genuine interest because they are genuinely interested, not just for good looks only.Unless you're a rag(=roddelbladen) photographer that is.Regards,Lucien.

May I ask you where you got that number, perhaps from a Maurice de Hond-peiling? (don't know the English word).
And as for the respect, Beatrix has got mine :) I think she's doing very well as a Queen. (I'm also a big fan of her late father, although he has done some 'naughty things' :P in his life, but I've seen him a couple of times, and he looks so friendly, like a grandfather :))

Tatia, peiling =poll. There have been many polls(but I'm not such a Maurice de Hond "fan").
I refer to the polls(by ao the NOS,Netwerk,TweeVandaag)at the start of this Silver Jubilee Year
that showed  87% of the Dutch are very much in favor. I add a link to more info:

Now I know why I didn't know those numbers, those aren't the programs that I watch on tv :P
I had a quick look on that site, but I couldn't find the 87%, but what I did see on the bottom of the pages with the poll results, was the name of Maurice de Hond  :P haha.
