Queen Beatrix always has been a keen sports woman,a "horsey-girl,sailing,skiying,tennis,swimming being among her favorite sports.

Ever since she was a young girl she participated in many concours hippique, along with her sister Princess Irene, grandmama Princess Armgard supporting them most of the time. There was a "strong competition between the two,Irene won more often than not.Same with skiying, both are excellent on the slopes, but again,it usually was Irene who either came down more elegant,or elegantly won any competition.

Since decades the RF moves to Lech am Arlberg,Austria for wintersports, and they are on the slopes daily.Sister Princess Margriet owns a chalet nearby,HM and the "boys"and their families mostly stay at Hotel Post,or the annex chalet, owned by the Mosbrugger family since generations, they have become part of the extended family and are among the RF's dearest friends.

Whenever possible,HM goes riding her horse at the beach near The Hague, between Scheveningen and Katwijk, often accompanied by one or two of her sons,so while you think you can have a quiet stroll along the waterline.........beware! ::)

Sailing is a passion to her,and since her 18th birthday,as she was presented with her own ship as a gift from the people, she sails "De Groene Draeck"(the Green Dragon)whenever possible, with her family and friends, not seldom other Crowned Heads and/or their family members.

Her sons are known to take the ship to sail and entertain their friends, most recently Frederik and Mary, and Haakon and Mette-Marit with little Ingrid Alexandra.

Summer holidays are spend in Italy, for the larger part,at the RF's estate in Tavernelle,Rocca di Dragoni,or Draekenstein, after her own private residence near Soestdijk,

Another passion of HM is dance, modern dance, and she's a strong advocate of that Art.

Last night saw the opening of the 10th Holland Dance festival at the Lucent Dancetheater,The Hague.
Choreographer Jyri Kylian,a good friend of HM since long, surprised HM with a choreography"Chapeau", dedicated to her Silver Jubilee and with a strong link
to one of HM's other passions, hats!

He had 12 dancers performing while wearing copies of HM famous hats,on music by Prince ;D,and she was absolutely thrilled. As soon as I find the pics,I'll post them.
HM was accompanied by Princes Alexander and Friso and Princesses Máxima and Mabel.

I add a link,scroll to:laatste journaal at the right side,and see a part for yourself;

The arrival of HM and TTRRHH Prince Alexander,Princess Máxima,Prince Friso and Princess Mabel at the theater.

Note;a mistake in the caption, again.Friso and Mabel are not styled HH but HRH.

Does she dance herself too? Or does she just like to watch?
The only dance I can imagine her doing is the 'Kabouterdans' with her eldest grandchildren ;D

'Kabouterdans', sounds interesting!

Not modern dance Tatia,no,but she loves watching new choreographies. As to dancing herself, she loves it,waltz and tango,I'm sure Máxima showed her a thing or two in that department. ::)Allthough "dutch hips"usually don't move as sensual as latins :P
But then HM suffers from her knees hurting more times than not,had to be operated on already but as this is her Silver Jubilee Year, and so much is planned, she postponed the op not to disappoint anyone. The operation is now planned for early january, that will leave her with taking it easy on the slopes of Lech in February,no doubt.

HM is highly revered in the Art-world,or the world of the Arts, like I said before ,she's a strong advocate of the performing arts.An example of HM dancing was during an award ceremony at the Royal Palace Amsterdam in december last year,as the artist/singer took her hand and gided her onto the stage to dance with him, which she did.

The Kabouterdans,oh I believe HM does that sort of thing with her grandchildren,as she stated herself, she's happiest when:babysitting, she just loves it to have her grandchildren with her to look after. She takes them into her studio to make drawings and let them sculpture the clay she provides them with and sings with them,ao.

A quick question that I'm sure one of our Dutch members will be able to answer - how does HM sign her name? Beatrix R? Or just Beatrix? Anyone have a pic of her signature? Thanks!  :D
