The headline is right, just minutes after their arrival they showed they master the "Australian salute"(the hand gesture to keep the flies away). The Prince and Princess told the children who welcomed them at the airport "to keep their mouth closed so they wouldn't have to deal with an unwanted australian snack".....flies.
However lovely the outfits of the Princess,(but that's entirely personal taste ofcourse
),Megan Doherty in her society column ofcourse compares "our" Máxima to Australia's "homegrown" Mary of Denmark,in everything, specially clothing.Poor Megan has asked dutch "expert",NOT,Barbara Plugge of rag mag "Privé";"Do the dutch only have eyes for their own Princess"?As Megan questioned B.P. about Princess Mary she replied;"Mary who"?(according to the Canberra Times)...
Ofcourse, the dutch here, know about Mary, the pride and joy of OZ,but Oz will have to wait just a couple more weeks before they can turn out in force to welcome her,Fred and the Prince of Oz,wee Christian.
The couple met with veterans at the Australian War Memorial(were the 102.000 Australians are honoured who fell in battle from the Boer War in South Africa to the battle of Java(1942) and Iraq),and as they were lined up,the Prince found it difficult to talk that way so he asked them to "round up"and speak free and open,if necessary in english...(with a broad grin)..Many had been in battle in former dutch east indies, now Indonesia,Korea and The Netherlands.
The Prince has expressed his sympathy for all those in Australia who suffer under the extreme draught (hope that is the correct word),Australia has not seen rain in ages, and many, especially farmers, have a very hard time surviving,as crops are gone and debts build up.They're in my thoughts as well.
Meanwhile the couple has arrived at Uluru/Ayers Rock
note:I noticed an error in the itinerary posted above,I wrote "Tasmaina"" instead of Tasmania, sorry for that possums,in full respect of sensitivities regarding spelling.
