Louise inherited the pearl necklace that had belonged to Alberts mother and no doubt were nice ones.

I think it was the Hesse pearls...I don't know if they are Hesse heirlooms or wedding presents from QV. I think they perished in the crash.  ???

From what I have read in Born to Rule, by Julia Gelardi, the Empress Frederick sent all her "papers" to England before she died to keep them out of the hands of her son ( as did Frederick III).  I assume these papers included peronsal correspondence with her family.  Perhaps Queen Elizabeth is in possession of them now.

I think they are primarily letters between her & Queen Victoria. Later the letters were returned to Germany now in Hesse Archievs in Schloss Farenerie.  ??? Didn't heard about those to Alice though ?

Vicky's letters to Alice are held at the Hesse State Archive in Darmstadt: about 65 letters from the years 1855-1862. Schloss Fasanerie seems to have two letters, or copies of letters, from later years. The other letters seem to be lost.

Didn't they always write in English?  Alice hadn't yet left for Darmstadt and english was there first language. I wonder if Alice kept the letters and took them with her to Hesse which is why they are in the archives there and not in Windsor?

All of Victoria and Albert's children knew German and QV (and those of her children who lived in Germany at least, Vicky and Alice) would drop German phrases into their letters. They also would put in French phrases sometimes.

Quite probably the Hesse Archives acquired the letters to add to what they were in possession of already?
