Sorry, I know I'm a bit late on this thread....but I had to remark on the resemblance in the pictures referenced above to Audrey Hepburn!  My gosh, with that hairstyle, Tatiana sure bore a striking resemblance (or the other way around!)

I started this new topic to collect some medical aspects of the Imperial Family, e.g.:
- Alexis hemophilia
- OTMA diseases (smallpox ?)
- Alexandra miscarriage (?) and depressions
- assassination attempt against Nicholas
- physical notes: height, weight, scars, tattoos, dental records, eyes and hair colour, ...
- surgery (?)
- food habits
- higienic habits
- vaccines (?)

I think medical history of famous persons and how disease can change History is a very much interesting subject, like the Alexis`s hemophilia change Russia`s History!  ::)

I hope you find this topic interesting too!  :)

Attempts on Nicholas's life: I don't have a link but the only assassination attempt I know of on Nicholas was in Japan in 1891 when some guy tried to kill him with a Samuri sword. His cousin Prince George of Greece blocked the blow with his walking stick and saved his life. He did get a scar on his forehead and headaches the rest of his life from it.

Alexandra and miscarriages: I have read that it was recently discovered in letters from Alexandra to her sister Victoria Milford-Haven that she was been in the early stages of pregnancy at the time of the coronation and miscarried due to the stress of the stampede that killed hundreds of people and the controversy over going on with the ball that night. Would it have been a boy without hemophilia? History might have been different. She also had a false pregnancy in 1902-03 when she was hysterically desperate to produce a male heir and was under the influence of charlitans. That's all I've heard.

Hello,

now I am a member of this forum.  :)

I know that many of the issues I am inquiring about have been discussed in previous threads but I wanted them together in just one big topic, so I created this one! I hope you don`t mind  ;)

Sarai: thank you very much for your work by putting things together.  :-*

When Alexei was born his measures were:
Weight-- 11 pounds (4.6 kg)
Lenght--  58 cm
Head--    38 cm
Chest--   39 cm

September 8th 1904 was the first time his illness apeared, according to Nicholas diary, when he started bleeding from his navel.  :(

Do you remember where you heard this or what book you read this?

James Blair Lovell goes on about it. AS you well know, he has other things in that book a bit difficult to swallow.
Best,

At that time Alexandra and Nicholas were under the influence of Monsieur Philippe, - Filipov-"our friend". The birth of Anastasia was a dissapointment to the rest of the family, still no heir and Alix was anxious for having a son.

Some family members made notes of Alix's so called phantom pregnancy in diaries or letters. Xenia a few times in letters to Princess Obolenskaya, writing Alix had a miscarriage, later she wrote she was sure it was all suggestion and blamed Filipov. Even GD KR- Konstantin- made notes in his diary saying they were surprised Alix not being expecting but the symptoms were anaemia, and that a bulletin appeared in the newspapers annouching the empress had a miscarriage.
I've found this in A lifelong passion.

Of course the court couldn't make any statement about a false pregnancy so they made it a miscarriage.
I'm wondering why Alix never mentioned anything about this in letters. She really must have thought she was pregnant . When she was expecting the other four children it was more or less made official by Nicholas to his mother or others. I can imagine she was desperate and would do anything to have a son. Was this all because of the  predictions made by Filipov? It's all left in the dark no real answers.

From Wikipedia:
"Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia suffered from the medical condition hallux valgus, which affected the joints of her two big toes."

Anybody can confirm this?

It was asked on another thread and I was wondering if anyone here knew the answer:

Was Alexandra able to have any children after Alexei?
