SAVOIA-GENOVA

Savoia-Genova branch was founded by Ferdinando Maria (1822-1855). He was the 1° duke of Genoa son of Carlo Alberto and Vittorio Emanuele II' s brother.
After a glorious past the Republic of Genoa became part of the Napoleonic Empire until 1815, when the delegates at the Congress of Vienna sanctioned its incorporation into Piedmont.

Ferdinando was tall and very similar to his father Carlo Alberto. He was also well educated and intelligent. His soldiers loved him and they considered him as a guide in battle.

Ferdinanodo during the 1848 war campaign. Cerruti Bauduc painted this portrait after Ferdinando's death in 1855. So it a posthumous portrait. The painter used other portraits as models.
