Koppay also did this wonderful portrait of Marie Valérie and her eldest daughter Elisabeth Franziska. Its style of painting is quite the same, so I thought Koppay must have painted this portrait of Elisabeth Marie, too.   ;)

Nevertheless she was very ill in old age and wasn't able to walk anymore.

Just like her grandmother, Elisabeth Marie loved dogs. She ordered that her dogs should be shot on the day she dies. Strange, don't you think?  :-?

This is NOT Leopold Petznek, but Elmer Lonyay, the second husband of Stéphanie of Belgium.

And statement that Erzi failed to become Queen of Belgium !

Indeed, when the young Prince Albert sought a wife, his choice had been initially made on Isabelle of Orleans then on Erzi. But, for family reasons - Leopold II was against this marriage - this project failed and he was folded back on Elisabeth in Bavaria, the last candidate possible.

But, if that had succeeded, I wonder which Queen of Belgium Elisabeth Marie could have been...
