Hm, interesting. It might be hard to come up with them since if they're so boring we don't pay them much mind.  :)

I guess I'd put (in no particular order) with it being relatively self-explainatory:
1. Edward & Sophie Wessex
2. Prince Andrew
3. Sandra Coburg
4. Louis Hesse (seems a very nice guy but accounts seem to indicate he was pretty boring)
5. 'Drino' Battenberg
6. Louise Wales (pretty tongue-tied so I don't think she'd be that interesting)
7. Ferdinand of Romania (maybe he just pales next to Missy)

I'm sure they're more but they've escaped me.

Hmmm tough one... But I must say tyhat even if they are boring to me, it doens't mean I dislike them...

Hmmm I dunno, it's pretty random, but they're mostly people I haven't readf too much about and seem a bit plain, or otherwise too much fancy has been artifitially created around them.... for my taste :D

2.  Andrew (seems to be interested only in himself)
3.  George V (sorry grandduchessella!)
4.  Queen Mary (sorry again!)
5.  Toria of Wales (always seemed to be thinking she was ill)
6.  Ducky (too self-centred to be interesting)
7.  Sandra (even her mother thought she was dull!)
8.   Andrew of Greece (just seems a bit uninteresting)
9.   Sandro (nice looking but a dull character - always moaning about everything!)
10.  Beatrice (too much under her mother's thumb!)

This is going to sound mean, because she was really a nice person, but my no. 1 pic is . . .

1. LENCHEN!!! I'm sorry, but she was just the most dull of all QV's daughters . . .  dull as dishwater!

2. Henry, Duke of Gloucester, son of George V - even his mother Queen Mary admitted he was deadly dull, and spoke 'of nothing but you're precious football of which I am heartily sick.'  ;D

3. Louis of Wales, Duchess of Fife - Dull, dull, dull. Also done very little in terms of royal duties.

4. George I of England - BORING! He was the lest arty of the Hanoverians, and didn't even speak English!

5. Alexander 'Drino' of Battenberg - He never seemed to do anything even remotely interesting.

6. Queen Anne Stuart - She had no intellectual interests. Sarah Churchill said she always meant well, but no one could pretend her conversation was interesting. She spoke of nothing but tittle-tattle.

7. Luise Margarete, Duchess of Connaugt - never displayed much personality.

8. George, Duke of Cambridge - a very boring character, very little to say about him beyond his marriage and his army attitudes.

9. Catherine of Braganza, Queen of England - I actually quite like her, but she spent ALL her time with her Portuguese monks moping about.

10. James Francis Edward Stuart, Chevalier de St George, 'the Old Pretender' - apparently a very dour character. Not the sort of man who inspired loyalty.

That's my tuppence.   :)

Here are mine which I was thinking about on the bus:

1. Lady Jane Grey

2. James II/VII. At Versailles they said that he only had to open his mouth and everyone knew he why he was there (i.e. not in London).

3. Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Being married to this woman would be enough to drive anyone mad, with or without Porphyria (evidence: Fanny Burney's diaries).

4. The Empress Frederick. I find her fascinating, but she could be a bore! She was always trying to raise the intellectual content of the conversation without wondering whether it was interesting to whomever she was talking to. This didn't go down well in Germany!

5. Queen Marie of Roumania. It was always "me, myself and I "- which is the classic sign of a bore!

6&7. Arthur of Connaught and his son (Arthur of Connaught). I don't find Louise a bore funnily enough.

8&9. Joan of England (ca.1214-1236) and Joan of England (1321-1362). I'm still trying to think of something to say about them on the Stuart Queen consorts thread.

10. All members of the Royal family of Great Britain since the Abdication Crisis (except Princess Margaret of course).

1. Princess Helena, "Lenchen" (did she ever leave the palace?)

2. Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein (same as above)

3. Princess Louise, Duchess of Connaught (I can't think of anything about her at all)

4. her son, Prince Arthur (a royal hanger-on)

5. Princess Alexandra of Edinburgh/Coburg/Hohenlohe-Langenburg (I guess Missy, Ducky, and Baby Bee got all of the attention in this family)

6. Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia (even her escape from Russia wasn't very exciting, lived an extremely boring life in exile)

7. her husband, Grand Duke Alexander (BORING!)

8. Princess Helen of Waldeck-Pyrmont, Duchess of Albany (I can't think of anything she ever even did)

9. King Ferdinand of Romania (always seemed to be just standing there)

10. King Frederick of Denmark (brother of Alexandra, Marie, and Thyra; so boring I've forgotten his number)

Well I'm going to speak up for Lenchen!  :)

She wasn't at all boring...she was ahead of her time! As a child she preferred to play in the fort with her brothers than to pursue the more feminine arts of sewing etc. She was an excellent equestrian! She was a skilled pianist. Her sole problem was that she was crushed by her mother following her father's death...Her drug/placebo dependence show all the signs of a free spirit being crushed!

I like Lenchen!  :)

Number 1 the most boring.

1. All members of the Royal family of Great Britain since the Abdication Crisis (except George & Marina of Kent, the present Duchess of Kent, Diana, Alice Duchess of Gloucester, the Queen Mother and Sarah. Oops, almost all the exceptions are dead).

2. Empress Alix of Russia: always ill, always in suffering.

3. Edward VIII: even his voice was boring.

4. Queen Victoria: when she become widow, she become boring and that "we are not amused" behaviour...

5. Empress Dowager Cixi of China: very powerful and charismatic but I think that her daily life at the Forbidden City was very boring!

6. Alfonso XIII: just boring and not very smart.

7. Louis XVI of France: a good-hearted man but boring!

8. Felipe V of Spain: his madness turned the court life boring. Farinelli sang to the king the same arias everynight during 10 years.

9. Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester: a man of limited outlook and rigid views.

10. Augusta Viktoria, wife of Wilhelm II.

I agree with you, Grand Duke. In my opinion, the role of an empress was more fitting to someone more glamorous and less shy, like Missy.

OK--you've jogged my memory

for my #8 and #9 I'll put Christian of S-Holstein and Dona (how could I forget her?). I'll toss in Wilhelm I of Germany for #10

I'll stick up for Arthur of Connaught though. He was extremely hard-working and not a royal hanger-on at all. I'd put 'Drino' Battenberg (who was on my list) in that category.

Young Arthur was a popular prince and both he and his wife undertook many public duties which continued up until Arthur's premature death. He was particularly active in the years preceeding WW1 since he was one of the few British princes of age to attend to public duties. GV's sons were too young, Albert of S-H lived in Germany, Charlie Albany had become Duke of Coburg, Maurice Battenberg was fairly young and would die in WW1, Leopold Battenberg performed some but was hampered by hemophilia.  He served decades in the military (like his father) and was an able diplomat.

He was the first prince to attend Eton. After he attended Sandhurst, his service was:

1901-3 7th (Queen's Own) Hussars [saw service in the boer War]

1907-13  2nd Dragoons (The Royal Scots Greys)

1914-1916 served in France and Flanders as ADC to Generals Haig and French, British Expeditionary Force  

1917-1918  GSO (2) Canadian Corps (MID twice, CB, Knt. Order of St Vladimir 3rd class with swords of Russia, Order of Military Merit of Italy, French and Belgian Croix de Guerre with palms, British War and Allied Victory medals)

1919 brevet Lieutenant-Colonel

1922 Colonel, the Reserve of Officers (retired from active service )  

1920-1923 Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of the Union of South Africa and High Commissioner for Southern Africa

He also served as ADC to GV

Now none of this means he wasn't a bore but he wasn't a 'hanger-on'.  :)

Ok, ok, I'll retract the "hanger-on" part.  That wasn't very nice of me.  I really just didn't know much about him, although I knew he was military and those types usually do bore me.   :-/

Do you know how old he was when he died?  I was thinking it was early, but I may have him mixed up with his son.
