I agree, Tatiana was very pretty, and the wig didn't really take away from that, but it wasn't a very good look on her, and the bobbed hair definately was.

But, could she have let her hair short??
Wasnt it true that during the early 1900s, women could not have short hair because it was considered unruly?
If you had long hair, which every woman did, you would have to wear it up by the age of 14 or 15 (???).
Especially in Tatiana's position of a GD.
Even though, she does look splendid with it short!!  ;)

Well, she does look splendid with short hair, I'll have to admit that.

Well  Tatiana's hair fell out (If I have this wrong, please correct me!) so she must have cute it, otherwise it looked very strange, your head covered with bald spots  :-X. But I think it is true yup.

No, they didn't let her keep it short, it grew back. It was shaved off in 1917 when she was ill, and it was not that long by the time of her death in 1918. Women in those days had long hair, and they did bun it up age 16 or so. But if Tatiana had lived into the 1920s, she would have been allowed to have her hair short, and she would have looked beautiful. ;)

Remember how Little Women's Jo March had her hair cut off for money, and later announced that it felt "deliciously cool and light"? Louisa May Alcott was writing about a young woman living during the 1860s . . . who was, essentially, herself!

Their hair did look lovely long.

I think by the time of their deaths it wasn't ever so long, it must have been hard keeping it in good condition in the Ipatiev House.

Also after their deaths and the Ipatiev house was searched didn't they discover a lot of cut hair? I'm sure I read something like that.

Wow, the things I thought I knew but didn't!  :-[ I knew of course that all four of the girls lost their hair in 1917 due to measles and afterwards wore wigs, but somehow I totally was unaware that Tatiana had developed typhoid (typhus, whatever--I get them confused too!) and lost her hair then too. I'll have to get out my books and look up pictures of Tatiana from that time and play a little game of "spot the wig"! I DID wonder how she ended up getting Alexandra to agree to letting her bob her hair!! And why she was the only one with bobbed hair! I guess this answers my questions! And I think Tatiana looked gorgeous with long hair or short--but that bob really did suit her!!

Yes, the bob was nice and when I was first getting into the romanovs I wondered why she had short hair too, and then I found out!

Did you ever notice that Princess Irene of Hesse seemed to have had short hair when she was a child? I wonder why.

Here's a picture of Tatiana with her recently cut hair, while still ill in bed:

Soon afterwards with her hair still quite short:

And later in the year when her hair began to grow:

Tatiana looked a little like a doll I guess, because she had such fine, chiselled features. (jealous!!!!)

That is perhaps why in so many documentaries, when talking about Alexei´s hemophilia, they show that photo.
