One of Sarushka's questions hasn't been answered, and I'm curious about it as well! Did the general public know Tatiana's hair had been cut, and she was wearing a wig?

Does she wear that controversial wig here. I suppose this was taken on 1913. Correct me if I'm wrong:

Aah...She looks like she has her hair wound around but in fact, it's a wig.
It looks like real hair.

I believe that´s the general idea what wigs are for :) To deceive the watchers.

Oh, and one more question. Did OTMA wear wigs when they had their heads shaved in 1917? I don't think they did, since it does not show it in photos that I have seen. But does anybody know for sure? Also, another question. It is like the one Sarushka posted when she first started this topic. Did the public know that OTMA's hair had been shaved off?

I've read (somewhere on the forums) that the girls did have hairpieces made in 1917. However, I don't know the original source for that information, nor have I ever seen a photo of the girls after June of 1917 showing wigs or hairpieces. (According to Gilliard, the children's hair was shaved on 22 June, New Style. Aleksei's diary confirms that date.)

I'm not sure if the general Russian public knew OTMAA's hair had been shaved. Probably not. But the people of Tobolsk did remark on the girls' hair when OTMA sat on the balcony of the governor's house. So it wasn't exactly a secret, but there wasn't much opportunity for the news to get out.

I agree. But how OTMA's hairs was important for Tobolsk people? I doubt they looked at their heads, and almost all time they wore caps(I don't know closer noun). I agree it wasn't secret.  ;)

Some of the townspeople remarked that the girls had their hair cut like boys, so apparently their bare heads were occasionally visible.

On that 1913 photo featuring Olga and Tatiana wearing court gowns, was Tatiana wearing a wig too there?
I think she is. But, if she really is, how come could the wig stay put on her head? I see the head dress she wears is so heavy since it has that long veil.
