But, if she really is, how come could the wig stay put on her head? I see the head dress she wears is so heavy since it has that long veil.

Except for Aleksei's christening, I'm not aware of the Big Pair ever attending any formal ceremonies in full court dress. So maybe she only had to pose for this photo with the wig and kokoshnik instead of actually moving around in public.

I'm not sure if it was for the girls' coming of age, or for the tercentenary celebrations. Perhaps a bit of both.

You know until I looked at the Livadia site... I never knew that was a wig. My friend with who I am slowly starting to teach about the Romanov Family and OTMA could actually see it was a wig a couple weeks ago! I guess for some people you would probably really have to look closely at the photos that involve the wig to really notice it!

The medicine caused it to fall out, so Alexandra had Tatiana's head shaved (cut short, actually) so her hair would grow back evenly.

That was for measles in 1917.

I think Tatiana's hair was cut in 1913 because of a high fever that lasted over a week. Olga's diary for the time of Tatiana's illness makes careful note of TN's high temperatures, but doesn't mention that her hair was falling out.
